English Language

englishOn June 6, 2007 the United States Senate voted to make English the official language of the United States, with a vote of 64-33.  The bill also states that no person has a right to have the government act in another tongue unless specifically stated by law.  In an unprecedient follow-up on this bill Europe has decided to follow suit (sort of)!  Read below to hear all about it:

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'.

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords
kontaining 'ou' and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi  bl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl

This is hilarious. The funny thing is that you still can understand.

In Russia after the revolution they reformed the Russian alphabet and did something similar to what you are showing.

As a result, there are now 33 leters in Cylilic, and there were many more. No matter how funny this sounds, these things happen, and I wouldn't be surprised that they may be needed.

Take American English. There are certain things that Americans simplified. And we all survied it. Cheque became Check, and there are some other words.

I have a warning for you. In Europe this is really possible. There are a bunch of people who get paid to come up with garbage like this and before you know it, it is the law. I could give you many examples of what I mean, but you'd think half of them were jokes.

This is very funny. With political correctness gone rampant it actually would not surprise me to see it happen.

Mary

Good Post. In the PRC, under Mao, something like this did happen.

He changed the way the language was written. However, he also changed the way words are spelled (or pronounced) in English. For instance, x is pronounced sh so the town XIAN is pronounced Shian, or the words for Thank You, xie xie are pronounced shay shay.

Q is pronounced 'ch" so Qang is Chang.

There are a whole bunch of others also.

I really like your charicature!

Then there is that old joke -

What is someone who is tri-lingual?  Well, he or she can speak three languages.

What is someone who is bi-lingual?  Well, he or she can speak two languages.

What is someone who is mono-lingual?  Well, he or she would be an American.

We should be ashamed of ourselves!
