Since here in Los Angeles, Craigslist postings expire every seven days, we post to Craigslist alot.

And we find it very convenient to copy and paste the HTML code generated by VFlyer (or Postlets or RealEstateShows)... plus it looks so nice.  But it is pretty code heavy stuff.

So, I would not be happy to see a limit imposed on HTML code in Craigslist postings.

Here's a link to the proposed list of allowable HTML on Craigslist

Looks like no outbound links will be allowed?  No <a href> anchor tags in the list that I can see.  Well, that stinks.

What do others think?

I would imagine the VFlyer, Postlets and RealEstateShows guys are in discussions with Craigslist?

Agents, have you given any thought to a strategy if Craigslist does enforce HTML limits ... (I was thinking of playing with the idea of creating some simple Craigslist flyers in NVu.... so they're still alittle different than the basic stuff but they'll contain only the most basic HTML)

I think the competition of FSBOs would be happy!

I will admit I don't know html but I don't see how it bogs down the system.  I get a ton of leads by the consumer clicking and going to my website! I also like the vflyer and html idea because it is prettier and portrays a more professional vision of the poster!

Hi Cheryl,  I agree that no outbound links would be a bummer.  I clicked on the link you supplied, however, and reviewed their list of supported tags and discovered that <a> was on the list.  Perhaps they revised the list.  As always, your diligence and willingness to share is much appreciated.  Thanks.

Don:  Look at that, there it is.  I swear I didn't see it earlier <s> ... so maybe they did revise the list today....

I think a tutorial on how to create some simple Craigslist flyers in NVu is a great idea Cheryl! <G>

While I mix my Craigslist posts up, some I create in simple HTML and some I use from vFlyer and Point2, I would hate to see a limit.

We have been using v flyer and reposting every week it is time consuming but so far it has been worthwhile.

I use the point2agent html and this adds photos and links directly back to my site.  I don't see a need for a limit, is this your position to limit it or are you trying to avoid this decision?

Cheryl... we have completely rewritten our code in advance of the html crackdown by Craigslist. We have seen some Real Estate Shows Flyer users knocked off of Craigslist already, so we're going to be proactive and make the changes now. We should be updating our code before the end of the week. Our code will be in complete compliance with the new standards being proposed.

Joel ....  It's Craigslist that is coming up with the limit crackdown thing probably because of abuse by spammers  ... I'm just a Craigslist user/advertiser trying to cope .....

Jeff ... Good work!

There are similar alternatives:  BackPage and Kijiji, and they would increase in prominence, I think.

People will go where the listings are.
