This month, we celebrate our nation’s birthday and what it means to be an American. I love the part in Lee Greenwood’s “I Am Proud to Be an American” where he sings, "And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me, and I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today, cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.”
God bless the USA. God has blessed us to see the changes that have taken place. We have come a long way in 250 years, but we still have many challenges that we must meet head on in the future. The same great men and women who had the courage and leadership to start the journey and create the America we know today are needed now. We need to pray that the spirit of these men be upon our current leaders as we deal with the many issues that congress will make, that may change this country forever.
This is a pivotal time in history, where every move our government makes could be catastrophic on so many levels. This is an unprecedented time in politics and in cyber warfare here and around the world. It is an unprecedented time in race relations and police brutality. It is an unprecedented time in the fight for citizenship and immigration laws and border control. It is an unprecedented time in defense of our political system against the influence of foreign governments. What do you do when everything seems out of control? Pray!
We at The Power Is Now want to encourage you to pray for our president and our Congress and the governors and mayors and other leaders in authority, that they might lead a quiet and peaceful life according to I Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV). We want to encourage you to pray for the racial turmoil that is undermining our great democracy. Pray for the demise of political partisanship that is bringing our government to a grinding halt. Pray for the American family and the social and cultural upheaval that is occurring in every city and institution of American life. Pray for our economy and jobs for America. Pray for our seniors and our children. Pray for the homeless men and women and even entire families who are living in their cars because they cannot afford a home. Pray for affordable housing and homeownership for everyone. Pray for the security of our country and military, police, fire, and first responder service men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day. Pray without ceasing.
When you have petitioned God with all of your heart and soul, pray again. For God loves the prayers of the saints. They go up before Him like a sweet aroma that brings a smile to His face. God will hear our prayers and He will give us the desires of our hearts. He loves us and desires us to prosper and to give us hope individually and collectively as a country. Jer. 29:11-13. May God bless America.
