Toys : Danger !

                                                                                    toys

We all know that children can be harmed from lead paint in older homes, but did you know that children can also become exposed to dangerous toxins  from toys ? Some of these toys should be banned, and especially include certain varieties of toy jewelry that children really love to play with. All children are at great risk from exposure from toys that contain lead. It up to all parents to insure that their children remain safe from these dangerous toys.

Protect Your Children

1. Ask retailers if they retain or have on hand any documentation that will provide you with information that their toys don't contain lead  or other toxins. Also tell the retailer that it concerns you if they don't have this information available.

2. Look over your children's toys  and try to determine if they have lead in them. If they do, get them out of your house and throw them away. Get your kids tested because lead poisoning is next to impossible to detect in any other manner. Insure the health of your child.

3. Stay away from the fake looking, glossy toys or pearls that might be painted with lead paint.

4. Keep toys with small parts, especially if they're metal or metallic, away from children. They may be swallowed and injure or kill.

5. Stay away from toys in vending machines. They're dangerous. In 2004, over 150 pieces of children's fake jewelry were recalled from vending machines throughout America. Parents, make sure you keep these products away fro your kids!

6. Make it a point to visit the Center for Environmental Health website to get the most current list of companies and manufacturers that have agreed to correct problems with their products. Protect your children !

Can you think of other ways to protect our children for these hazards ?

Good information David - can you imagine what people over the age of 45 have been exposed to in our lives?  I am sure when I was growing up that there were no regulations or control on the toys. We used to get toys from the vending machine for a dime (I especially loved the little metal dinasours) and you know they were from overseas.  I am sure they were loaded w/terrible toxins. It is very scary to think how many times we handled them, put them in our mouths, ran them thru the dirt and such. No wonder why we have so many disorders and diseases that we didn't have 30 years ago.

And the Erector Sets with all of the small metallic parts, Suzanne, that all of my pals had when I was a kid, especially if your 3 year old kid brother was messing around with the kit. The early modeling clay products and other so-called art supplies also caused some digestive problems for some unlucky kids. Your so right ! Great to hear from you.
