Santa Monica, CA has always had a Global Magnet feel to it, i.e.: the desirability factor and this can be attributed partially to the fact that the city is less than fifteen miles to Downtown Los Angeles and less than nine miles to Beverly Hills. It does not feel as remote as Malibu, CA. Most residents can live and be able to commute to the other parts of Los Angeles without too much inconvenience.
Another factor of desirability is of course the school system, which many couples with children take into consideration.
