Al Marah is a community of slightly less than two hundred homes just off River Road next to the Primary Day School and across from the Holton Arms School for girls. It is very close to the Beltway entrance at River Road and near the Burning Tree Country Club.
What are the Homes Like In Al Marah?
Built between 1979 and the early 1980s Al Marah is a community of traditional homes of brick or siding set in well landscaped lawns and typical lot sizes ranging from a quarter acre to slightly under an acres. Some of the homes were built by Mitchell and Best along the northern side of the community. These Mitchell and Best homes feature the company's traditional elevations with a widows walk atop some or gables in the roof and screened porches at the rear. Other homes were individually built by different builders such as NV Homes or at the request of the original owner. These homes generally range from 2500 square feet to 4500 square feet, although there are a few homes on larger lots that are an exception to this size range.
In addition, there are twenty eight duplexes on Jensen Place which were built by NV Homes originally as rentals, each with three finished levels with a total of approximately 1452 square feet of living space on the first two floors and then a basement - and a side entry porch. What is the Market Like in Al Marah?
Since the beginning of 2017, two homes have sold in Al Marah. One was the listing at 33 Pepperell Court which listed for $900,000 and sold for $870,000. This home had five bedrooms and three full baths upstairs, a den on the first floor, nearly 3/4 acre of land and a putting green in the back yard! The other listing that sold in 2017 was 7708 Zulima Court which listed for $995,000 and sold for $1,065,000. That home had four bedrooms and two full baths upstairs, two half baths and a finished basement. There is also one home at 7533 Pepperell for sale in July 2017, listed by Real Living at Home for $1,089,000.
Where Do the Children Go To School?
If you live in Al Marah, your children will go to school at Bannockburn Elementary, Thomas Pyle Middle School, and Walt Whitman High School. In addition there are a number of private and parochial schools nearby such as Holton Arms, Landon, Concord Hill, Primary Day, Little Flower, and St. Bartholomew.
What is Nearby?
Life at Al Marah does require a car. The nearest shopping is either in Potomac, about four miles away up River Road, or down River Road to the Westbard area where there is a Giant Grocery Store and a Whole Foods. Restaurants are either in Potomac or in downtown Bethesda which is just a five to seven minute car ride away. The big mall experience is easily achieved at Montgomery Mall, just a short ride around the Beltway or Tysons Corner just over the bridge into Virginia!
Recreation abounds here. There is the C&O canal just a few minutes away with the bike path and canoeing or kayaking. The Billie Goat Trail on the C&O Canal is a great (and challenging) way to spend an afternoon! Public golf is available in Potomac and public tennis courts are open at the local schools.
