Ask An Ambassador: How Many Posts In A Row Can I Post?

There are written rules for this community and if you haven't read them, it's a good idea to find out what they are and you'll understand why this community thrives.

If you want to keep things rosy, there are some clear no-nos.

  • Don't self-advertise on another bloggers post.
  • Don't be rude! (remember learning how to play nice in the sandbox when you were in kindergarten?  Same principles, just a MUCH bigger sandbox).
  • Don't violate the law.  That's fair housing, commission discussions, and other topics that need to stay in your head and not typed.
  • Don't spam other members

And that last is one of the rules that you might find has the written component, and the unwritten expectations of the community.

Directly, that means no direct mailing, calling other members, etc. to solicit their business.  Face it, we're here to build our own business, NOT be the target of someone giving us the hard sell for the latest shiny.  Write your posts and if I read and find I like what you offer, we'll be in touch.  Otherwise...stay offa my lawn!

Now the unwritten expectation is a bit fuzzier, and that's back to question in the title.  How many posts can you release in a short time without enciting the community's wrath?  Because here's the reality, carpet bombing the blog roll with pages of posts will put a burr under a few saddles.

Technically, there's no limit by the ActiveRain community standards as long as you're NOT writing true spam posts (e.g. Internet gambling, live stream sports channels, etc.).  Obviously you stop getting points after you hit your weekly limit, but face it, if you're looking to drop 10, 20, 30, 40 or more posts posts in a day, you're not doing it for the points are you?

But it's never a good idea to intentionally incur the wrath of the community.  For some members, a mass onslaught of posts by one Rainer is perceived as spamming.  I know, you're writing legit content to attract the consumer, but at the same time that monopolizing of the blog roll takes away the "community" part of the Rain.  And there's no rule specifically against a mass posting as long as it's your content.

So what's the magic number?  The answer isn't exactly a clear answer to that question.  There's 20 slots per page of the blog roll.  I'd venture that for most Rainers, they'd like half (or more) of each 20 slots to be from a variety of bloggers.  Breaking up your posting into chunks that maintain that balance will help.

And perhaps even better would be concentrating on "off hours" when fewer Rainers are likely to be busy reading the blog roll.  Late night/early morning (and keep in mind East Coast/West Coast time differences) might be the optimal time to post.  The consumer won't care when you post just as long as you provide the content they need when they search.  And the Google bots never sleep, so anytime works for them too!

The Rain is a social community, give it the chance to be social.

Hmm, timely topic here : )

Education needs to come into play here, too --- there is no possibility someone can write 50 posts in a day (or even a week) of quality content that will get their phone ringing and google to fall in love with them.  A post 'template' with a few words changed here and there isn't going to get the job done, and really does end up just spamming the board with posts that help neither author nor reader.

John, and at least IMO the template approach used recently lacked links to good keywords to make the value better.  "click here" doesn't help an iota.

Bliz some folks do get nuts about robo posters - saw quite a bit of it last week. We basically have 2 groups here in the rain - posters only with little to no community activity and posters that appreciate the community and networking. I'm in the 2nd group.

I'm in the 2nd group, but my participation level is significantly lower than 2-3 years ago.  Too much going on for me to keep up as much as I'd like.

Unfortunately the ones that could most use the input are the ones least likely to participate in the community and read the message.

What can we do for you today?

20 Posts in a day or a week wow that is crazy... there is no way that I could get that done. Getting one a day for an entire month is good for me and a challenge at at.

Mass production approach, so not much different other than community/condo name.  Could probably be hired out to someone on fivver.com for not much money at all.

I don't particularily care for those that only post their listings of their office to stay way ahead on the points. I pride myself in producing quality posts but there's no way I'll ever be number one again because I just won't do it.

Bill and Liz, I don't look at the blog roll, my focus is on those I follow. Those who post multiple blogs are really missing out on the community part of ActiveRain which no other platforms alike offer.

I'll wander out when I'm looking for someone new to follow, although my subscribed to list gives me more than enough to read.

Great advice to break it up, Bill! I am not bothered by it because I rarely use the blog roll anyway. But, it makes complete sense to break it up - or even, as you said, post during off hours.

Liz and Bill Spear well, it takes a little time to understand what this platform is all about - it's a lot more than just blogging, it is a community.

Natives also have a great quality of forgiving and forgetting - and move on!

As long as there is a 'Happy Ending', it's fine, isn't it?

Jul 19, 2017 10:20 PM

It can be.  For the most part the serial posters aren't too worried about the community or what they think.

Sometimes it is OK to be funny, we need a smile or encouragement.

At this point I write a post, then post immediately.  Repeat the next day, and the next.  Very rare for me to double up in a day.

I can see posting two or three times a day if you have something to say - or a market report to share. But... why all at once? Doesn't it take a little time to write those posts? If there are others posting in the same time frame, how do we end up with 10 or 20 from the same person all in a row?

Maybe they write them ahead of time and schedule them?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Jul 23, 2017 09:39 PM

Marte, in most cases it seems to be templated.  Change photo, change a link, repeat, repeat, repeat.......

Providing the integrity and service you deserve.

The only thing I've noticed from time to time is when I see 10 posts from the same person and they post about their new listings but never post any real content.

There are those that never really engage with the community.  Just another way of using the Rain to build business, but not what I consider the best method.
