A shoulder shrug away from an eye roll.

 

The art of listening is necessary when first meeting home buyer clients. Finding common ground by asking questions about wants and needs allows a conversation to grow into a mutual kinship.

 

Establish a rapport, staying to the professional side of matters. Focus on real estate related information, avoiding off topic subjects. As you get to know one another, opening up will come naturally. 

 

Early in my business career, the sheer excitement of meeting a new client got me tripped up by trying to get a conversation going. Since then, I have learned to tamp it down.

 

Reading body language also comes in handy and can be very telling as it can save time, energy and allow you to continue the home search, reschedule or re-group under better circumstances.

 

Taking the time to prepare properly for clients puts them first, placing you in a trusted position to help realize their goals with less chance of being a shoulder shrug away from an eye roll. Happy sales all!

Learned the hard way Kathy Streib. Years ago, I took a phone call to show a house, was so excited that I didn't ask the name of the caller or get the phone number...thankfully the person called back. *Sigh*
