Many years ago there were delicatessen's in all the neighborhoods .Today it is really hard to find a really good deli with authentic Jewish cuisine. It is not the food it is financing and the big food chains .What a loss . Just lately Jacks a local deli in the Bustleton section of NE Philadelphia Pa closed its doors and said Good Bye to the dismay of many .
Saturday was Ben and Irv's Deli in Huntington Valley Dinner with a friend at the neighborhood deli . The local deli is about thirty minutes away but the food is worth the ride . I had a Groupon $16 for $30 worth of food .
- The menu is at least three of four pages long . I love the soup . My favorite is mushroom barley . My friend ordered matzo ball . We split a corn beef special on rye no seeds . I like mine hot she got hers cold .It is so big neither of us could finish a whole sandwich . The service is exceptional and usually there is a line and a wait . Normally you see someone you know which we did They stop at your table and chit chat
- There was also a bowl of delicious pickles on the tables . So nice and salty that my ankles swelled up on Sunday something that has not happened to me for a very long time . Oh and did I mention an old fashioned fountain glass of mint chocolate chip ice cream so big that I complained that I wanted a small scoop . The waitress came over and laughed graped my hand and said that is small . I said no I want a little scoop you don't understand I will eat it all. She laughed at me again. Seriously I was not trying to be funny . Eat it all I did .Then she gave me an oatmeal raisin cookie . Here she said you are just a little short of your Groupon.
Ouy Vey . Ga Sint ter Hage - You should live and be well . I asked my friend to leave the tip I would take care of the check Then when you leave you stop at someones table chit chat and say good-bye
