It may be sunny and nice but this bird is busy at work. He (I'm not sure it's a he really) is pecking the tree closest to my home with a serious attitude. It took me a while to actually see him but once I did, it was like he knew I was watching and hit that tree in earnest.
It's funny Sheila - rarely do we have woodpeckers in my neck of the woods. Years ago we had one and both of us thought - what is all that noise! He was a busy little guy!

Hi Grant. They are all over here but I rarely see them....too high. TY Sheila
There must be some tasty treats burrowed down in the crevices of this tree.

We had a couple of woodpeckers in our yard recently and it was strange because we couldn't hear them at all.

Lots of work for a tasty treat but that's perserverance personified. Good lesson for us all that you've got to work hard to get what you want.

I am convinced that bird has a whole lot more energy than I. He's got a stronger bill too!

You captured a great picture Sheila! This is another bird I didn't see in SoCal. I love to hear the sound of a woodpecker!

Hi Sheri. The sound can be deafening. There are a few at Tanglewood that I've not seen but certainly heard. I'm told they are very big. Sheila
