It seems to me that the days of professional plumbers that came in and took care of not only the pipes but also the mess they made in the process are gone! I have had to deal with several plumbing issues during 2016 both for myself and for several clients. What I have found does not paint a very pretty picture!
First of all, plumbers show up and after you have told them on the phone what they are coming out for, they have to run to Home Depot or Lowe's to get parts.......so getting a water line for the washer or for a sink BEFORE you came out wasn't possible and you don't carry parts on your truck?
Then there is the mess they make............not only barely cleaning it up again but if they have to take out drywall, they don't replace anything. You need to call a drywall guy to fix that hole in the wall that the plumber just made. I can remember when ONE PERSON did the entire job and it was finished!
Today I had the water heater taken out so a new emergency shut off valve could be replaced. There is a hole in the wall. The plumber doesn't fix the hole.....if I call a drywall guy, is he going to drain the hot water tank (again!) to fix the hole?
Is it just down here or is this a national issue? Does your plumber fix the drywall when he has destroyed part of it? Is this normal? I know in new construction there is somebody there to take care of these issues and I am starting to think I would be better off to call a general handyman than a plumber when there is an issue.....at least the general handyman might do the ENTIRE job!
