When Grabbing for the brass ring, don't miss the merry-go-round.

Life is funny in that we can get so caught up in making a life that we forget to live. I'm a hard charger. If I want something to happen, I will move heaven and earth to see it happen. In business, I'm not a wandering generality. I am focused, determined and specific. I push the limits of my abilities until they either grow or throw me overboard, but then I climb back into the mix and push a little harder.

That's good when you're creating a business that is destined to be successful, but the downside of having a personality like mine is that it's easy to miss the sunrise and sunsets, the subtle breezes and the beauty along the way. As I've gotten older, and maybe it's an age thing, I realize that I need to pay attention to the wonder that's around me that isn't part of the expected.

Sure, I'll keep up with contracts, show houses, meet deadlines and do my fiduciary duty for my clients, but I will stop and pet a dog (Which I did Sunday. Meet Remi.) I'll anonymously pay for a serviceman or a first responder's meal. I will help a shopper load her groceries. I'll pay attention to the simplicity in the world around me. It's too easy in my hyper-active life to forget to live.

I recently made friends with a goat on a home inspection, and it was one of the most entertaining and joy filled points in my day. That crazy goat wanted her neck scratched and I was her go to person for that slice of life.

Make sure that when you're grabbing for the brass ring in life that you don't miss the merry-go-round. It's what you're riding on to find that brass ring. Enjoy the ring, but most of all, enjoy the ride.

Mike- I couldn't agree more! When all is said and done, we don't want to look back and say "What ride?" or "What journey?"   There are so many beautiful things that life offers us if only we would take the time to see them.
