The News Is Causing Us Harm

All day and everyday all you here is negative news.  This is the only thing they can talk about and the market is feeding of it.  It is causing good market areas to suffer and making buyers and sellers to think the world is going to crash.  Not all markets are bad, Greenville Sc market is doing well, and our job market looks good.  But for the sake of news they are selling us all out.  When do you ever hear happy news?  The local channels are even picking up on it, and since we have had this gas and home crisis do we here much about the war?  Look around you and not play into the doom and gloom.  Gas prices are high, but no one is doing a thing about it.  In the 70's at least people were making a noise and protesting about it.  Today everyone sits around and does nothing.  Food prices and every product around is going out of sight, my question when is enough ?  Is there nothing we could do as a large active rain group, or as Realtors standing together?  One person is not going to be heard.  We have to act quickly, who can help us.  God is our only helper and everyone needs to pray, because our country is going to crash if we let all the negative news continue.

A headline in our local paper supports what you are saying.  The headline screamed out in bold print that the market continues to decline BUT buried within the story was the fact that our local market is actually on the increase and has been for several months.

So why was the bad news the headline instead of the good news?  The fact that our local market is stable and showing signs of improvement should have been the headline!

Ha! And the paper wonders why we (agents) don't buy advertising from them. LOL

Kathy,

One person can make a change. Here is how. Three or four years ago blogging was a blip on the screen. Today blogging has made it's way into the news. At first news organizations merely reported about blogs as a supplement to their news stories.

Now today you see more and more news people not only blogging after hours but also blogging during thier news broadcast. Why is that?

It is because people have found that they develop a trust with a blogger that reflects their own views. Once a bond is formed it no longer matters if the blogger is a reporter or just someone sitting at home.

So you want to change the views of people? Then blog girl blog. Blog about the very news you want to hear. Syndicate your blog and work hard at making it the very best. Trust me the readers will come and follow you. Then you will see how one person can change the world.

You're right, the news is harmful.  Satan is ruler of the airwaves.  That's why doom and gloom is prevelant in the news.  Everything has to be sensationalized to get people to listen to the media's babble and cause mass hysteria and confusion.  I choose to listen to God's word and to put my trust in Him. My life is more peaceful that way.

Kathy:  I listen to very little of the news for the very reasons you say, even that so called "fair and balanced" station.  Life's too short to be bombarded day in and day out with negativity.  It's better to take a walk or spend more time with family or the treasured pet who would just love to have your attention for a while.  What is so insulting to me is when these news show blame it on the viewing public and say that's what we want to hear so that's why they report it !

I agree with 100%.  I think if we (AR) as a community would stand up we could make the media see that things are not bad everywhere.  We need to push the message "Every market is different."

Kathy - Completely agree! I wrote about about how Greenville had the 4th best housing market in the nation right now.  Lots of people feed into the doom and gloom because they know nothing else.  You have to just keep putting the good stuff out there and people will hear you. Some markets are doing well and the ones that aren't will bounce back - they always do!
