Support for video and multimedia on ActiveRain

As of this morning we've made some adjustments to our platform that should allow members to more easily include, video, podcasts and other multimedia in their blog posts. This had been one of the common complaints with our platform and we are working to solve it as we work towards the upcoming release of additional blog customization.

We currently don't provide a hosting service for video or podcasts, they will have to be hosted on another site, but we will explore this option in the future. To add an externally hosted video or podcast to your blog use the "HTML" button on the toolbar.

Then from the window that pops up you can insert the code to display the video or podcast, which is typically provided by the hosting service. Let us know via the feedback form if you run into problems with any types of multimedia objects and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Whoo Hoo! I just figured out the HTML option on the tool bar (as you can tell...) and I love it. You guys really have been making AR better and better!!

Great stuff - now if only we can get Localism & Neighborhoods "working" again we'll really be on a roll!

YAY!!! Great job on these latest upgrades!! Perhaps this will help to keep those who continually call AR lightweight and childish in the world of blogging from doing so. I saw that "HTML" button on the tool bar earlier today, but hadn't yet experimented with. I will NOW!!

wow...I am still trying to get caught up with the basics.... lol help./...

I just tried the vflyer widget a few minutes ago. It works perfectly on my own blog but there is a little glitch on AR. It is a very cool thing and I just "chatted" with someone at vflyer. It will be looking forward to re-trying tomorrow!

Yeah the folks at VFlyer pointed out a minor glitch, and I think we both have fixes for it on each or our ends.

FANTASTIC! I just added my video to a listing post for Localism. Wasn't as easy as adding to my other blog or my web site, but after a few trys "it took".

Terrific news, Matt. Can't wait to start using the enhanced functionality.

Another note - the video pauses a little at the second slide. It doesn't do that on my other sites.

Thanks for the html button Matt & Gang!! It has been something I really wanted and updated one of our listings with its YouTube Video, Kayak Point Listings. It works pretty slick but I have found the YouTube code has to be edited slightly to work and it can be endited for size as well.

I guess I have some stuff to learn. Great added feature.

Toby, I just tried your video and it doesn't play. Is it supposed to? When I clicked it a second time it went to YouTube.

Is anyone else having trouble with YouTube this morning on AR? I embedded something yesterday and it worked, today I'm having troubles. Sherry

This is a comment I put on Jon's blog.. i exceed my 10 comments today, so dont give me tude please.!:)

"I had some trouble with you tube, but figured it out. for me, on PC, the code from the embed on you tube doesn't work. you need to strip some junk of it.. so below it the code and just replace the letters in BOTH spots.. hope this helps..

the letters are the reference to the video.. in the box that says 'embed'.. Jeff did a nice little post that is of great help.

and dont call me a nerd please! :) and no you dont have to comment on my blog to thank me.!! haha"
