Hiking Trails in Carlsbad California
Volunteers Needed for Trail Cleanups in 2017
Carlsbad has an abundance of hiking trails, about 50 miles worth – a big surprise to many who live here. And while there is something very special about walking on the beaches, there are plentiful options scattered around town.
The Carlsbad website has a complete list of hiking trails plus you can print maps for both North and South Carlsbad hiking trails. There are even some videos about a few of the trails.
Carlsbad’s hiking trails range from easy to difficult, in a wide range of distances, so they appeal to and are suitable for just about every hiker. Some trails are paved, while others are not, and some are wheelchair accessible. A residents in a number of master planned communities (e.g., Bressi Ranch, La Costa Greens) have trails to enjoy, too.
One of my favorite trails is along the Batiquitos Lagoon in the Aviara area of South Carlsbad. And the hike up Mount Calavera in the Calavera Hills area, with marvelous views in all directions, is a good one too, but much more vigorous.
Carlsbad holds a number of trail cleanup events during the year, and volunteers are always needed to help keep out trails in great shape for all to enjoy. The City provides a work plan and also safety training at the beginning of each of these trail cleanup events.
For the balance of 2017 volunteers are needed for the following Trail Cleanup Events:
September 30 – Lake Calavera Preserve (National Public Lands Day)
October 14 – Hosp Grove (off Monroe near the Shoppes at Carlsbad Mall)
November 18 – La Costa Glen (South Carlsbad)
December 9 – Old Rancho Santa Fe Road
Volunteers can also attend the quarterly Trail Volunteer Meetings. The next meeting is December 14 (location TBD – normally held at the Carlsbad Senior Center).
You can learn more about volunteer opportunities n Carlsbad on the city website page for volunteers. You can also either call 760-434-2929 or email to Volunteers@CarlsbadCa.gov.
