Austin Platinum PT50 is a very worthwhile organization and sponsors really come up with some exciting ideas to make a difference for the people in Austin. I knew about the Capital Texas Area Food Bank but didn’t understand the depth of their commitment to the community and that the need is so great.
Roxanne Watson the VP of Business Development for Austin Title came up with an awesome idea as a PT50 Sponsor to make a difference to Fight Hunger in Austin. Roxanne believes there is strength in numbers and working together so her values matched perfectly with the Central Texas Food Bank philosophy.
Every month a team of volunteers under her tutelage signs up and spends the afternoon volunteering at the Capital Texas Food Bank. I had no idea of their new facility and how many in need they try to serve. They work with food donors across the country, financial supporters and volunteers to fill the needs in Central Texas. Through the commitment from private, government and charitable partners it has allowed them to bring 31 million meals into hands of families and local nonprofits that need help in 2016! That is a lot of meals!!
By volunteering I’ve been awed with what team work and many helping hands can accomplish in preparing meals for those in need of meals. It’s been three months now that I’ve been volunteering and look forward to our afternoons of helping making a difference. So much to do...boxing staples in an assembling line and our group assembled over 8,100 meals in one afternoon!! Another time we sorted meats and I learned the meat donated that can’t be served to humans is perfect for the Austin Zoo and the lions and tigers are the beneficiaries!
I look forward to volunteering and plan each month to be in the trenches helping make a difference. Nourishing hungry people by fighting against hunger is something I’m excited to be a part of one meal at a time and encourage others to join me.
