Pondering About Hyperbole

Because it’s Sunday.  And because I can.

As I read...and as my mind is prone to do...I wander...

and then I wonder...

and during this process I begin to ponder

and today about hyperbole.

This isn’t a political post.

Not because it couldn’t be but because it isn’t the direction I am going.

Hyperbole.

I’ve seen it in this forum.  Discussions here and there.

As well as out and about.  You know, in the real world.  In everyday life.

We know the subject shows up in real estate.

In print.  In conversation.

Casually and sometimes more formally.

In discussing offer terms. Or properties.  Or people.

Qualifications.  Or the lack of them.

Exaggeration.  Overstatement.  Embellishment.  Excess. Overkill.

Yeah, these are words that certainly qualify as synonyms of hyperbole.

I digress.

And then I ponder...

I look to find what thoughts others may have on the subject.

An interesting and a diverse group of individuals bring forth even more pondering:

I satirize at all times, and my hyperboles

are as nothing compared to the events to which they refer.

Marshall McLuhan

I live in a constant state of hyperbole

Eden Sher

‘Truthful hyperbole’ is a contradiction in terms.

It’s a way of saying. ‘It’s life, but who cares?’

Tony Schwartz

So, I step back.  I tell myself I am real...and genuine…

But is that the truth? I begin to question...myself

I think...I ponder. Is hyperbole normal?

I ponder about hyperbole.

About flying pigs...about exagerration. And reality.

What can I say? Where is the truth?

Can pigs fly?

And does it make a difference?

Yes, it is random.

Because it’s Sunday.  And because I can.

I ponder.

Because it doesn’t have to make sense.

Michael,

I look forward to your Sunday posts, and this is a wonderful subject to delve into.  I recall in the 9th grade, I wrote an essay on something assigned, and the teacher said it was full of "glittering generalities"!  It is definitely similar to hyperboles!  Our world is full of those, and it still find myself in moments of awe and great enthusiasm using glittering generalities or hyperboles.  It think it is human nature to want everything perfect.  Have a Sunday full of hyperboles!  A

Michael, we need to try to avoid those who exaggerate and are blow hards.   Great post for Sunday and always great to ponder.

Sometimes hyperbole is the only way to make a point and get through to people.

Love Eden Sher's quote and totally see why she says that. LOL

Michael love your Sunday ponder posts!  And I do believe pigs can fly. As I was heading towards Scottsdale on the 101 Freeway I looked ahead and low and behold it was  FLYING PIC - and it was a real hot air ballon! Who ever thinks they'll be driving around and see a flying pig?  I do now!

Michael Jacobs from my perspective in my world it's just the facts and no bull. I don't know if Anna ever mentioned this but we used to collect flying pigs. Somebody gave us a few and it caught on, everybody, including clients gave us flying pigs and they were spread out around the office. I have no idea where those flying pigs are anymore. Flew the coup I guess.

Hi Michael!  I agree with Tony Schwartz - if it were truthful, it wouldn't be a hyperbole!

I love your Sunday musings, wonderings, wanderings and ponderings!

Hope you have a fantastic week ahead (and that's no hyperbole)!

HI Michael- As you can tell, we are all loving your Sunday ponderfications. (Is that a word) Hyperbole has always been one of my favorite words- first of all I can pronounce, next I can spell it, and finally, I actually know what it means.

Hi Michael, it's not Sunday but this is a post to read on any day of the week. Based on some of the descriptions I see in MLS, sometimes I wonder if hyperbole is a requirement.
