BE DEBT FREE (mindset)

Everyone everywhere is an opportunist meaning that people are always looking for prosperity, breaks, good situations to invest or grow in and they should. America's economic base is built on making money, acquiring goods and services toward having a more quality of life as each one believes. That's the beauty of it. There are no restraints, formulas or barriers that can really stop us

LESS EXPENSES

Many people tend to forget, overlook or just are not aware that another way to make money or obtain a want or a pleasure is to cut back on their own spending or reduce expenses. Needs and wants govern here. This mentality requires discipline, finishing what is started & some denial which turns many away

IT WILL COME IF YOU DO

There was a time when people were only able to afford something based on their ability to purchase it. If you could not "buy" something, you went without it plain and simple. That made people concentrate on what they could do & put energy into that. Over time, circumstances & perseverance, things happen

HAVE NOW PAY LATER

When credit was introduced, the idea of having something now and paying for it later is hard to turn down or resist. How cruel a temptation to some while to others, it was considered a lucky break. Leveraging or borrowing against a future event is very doable but all so binding as well

WE ALL WIN

In the 50's, when housing was affordable and have-able for the doing and asking, one only needed to come up with the starter amount (near-nothing) and lenders would do the rest. It stood to reason that people needed a place to stay so how could any of the parties as in seller, buyer and lender not prosper?

RENT IF YOU WANDER BUY TO SETTLE DOWN

Back then, house payments were the same as rent payments except they were treated as a debt to be repaid and always took precedence and was treated as a long term commitment to be carried out and on the way giving incentive and assurance that one day, the results will add up to this:

ITS THERE IF YOU WANT IT

No more payments and I end up with a home that belongs to me. Amazing as this is very doable and the accomplishment as well as the feelings that go with it are most satisfying and productive too. Supply and demand governed this process and there was no urgency just availability. When ready, its ready

THE SYSTEM IS SOUND

Today, the pleasure of purchasing a home, owning it and paying it off is more rigid, structured and stressful as well as demanding but still offers the same results and pay-offs (pun) making it a subject of interest for everyone. Whether one can afford it or want it is another matter

SAVING MONEY WORKS FOR YOU

One thing we know for sure. If one takes their hard-earned money and sets up a system to save a portion of it while being prudent and living within means or sacrifice that investing in anything can be done as the mindset (belief) goes to work prior with the results of the belief to follow and they do

ITS A LANDFALL!

You know how when you get paid, you come into a large sum of money? Well if you are like the majority of people, that sum is spoken for. I remember my first paycheck or money situation taking place while living at home as a youngster. With no debt, care or obligations, the amount was staggering

WOW MONEY TO SPEND

As a kid, I was amazed that I could go purchase anything I wanted and still have money left over but for what? Well to go spend more money the next day and the next not caring about anything. However, when you mature, add commitments and responsibilities to this system, it takes on another meaning

BURDENED BY LIFE?

Today, as in right now, taking debt and putting it in its place instead of it putting you in your place is a good place to start. Having student loan debt, credit card debt, car payments, medical expenses and even necessity spending places a burden on the person while they are trying to live. Live how?

WHY STRESS?

If stressing out, having no closure & being in a hopeless state of never-ending debt is the reason why you exist, it doesn't motivate you to live but instead discourages. For those that got caught up in this, they have their work cut out for them. For those that didn't, we have a chance to work smarter not harder

PUT SOME MONEY AWAY

Saving money is a type of freedom in its application if you choose to look at it that way. It appears that you are going without but in reality, you are not weighed down but instead incentized as in motivated to plan, dream and then implement your major wants and needs by commanding them & not them you

TRULY LIVING IS TO LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS

Live within your means. It can painful, challenging and even appear to be hard work but the dynamics of respecting the systems and learning how to use them instead of them using you pay-off in more ways than one. Debt was never meant to be and we have a history of how it is a type of suffering for the many

Richie, excellent advice, unfortunately our society has been programmed in the past 30-40 years to the concept of "must have don't need" consequently we buy and lease things we do not need and the products are made to be thrown away as soon as we buy it the replacement is already ready to be distributed...Endre

Richie Alan Naggar You have written another excellent blog post. Being debt free should be the American Tradition, but unfortunately, too many have suffered as a result of getting into debt due to the convenience of credit cards.

Growing up was hard for me. I was always hearing my mother's stories about growing up in the Great Depression. She was a saver, recycler, frugal woman, and a giver. What I mean by that, is she always helped her siblings, even after I moved on with my life. Until she died, she made meals for my uncles who never married. She always had them over for dinner, so they wouldn't have to eat alone. My mother never worked, even after my dad died; yet she died debt free. I remember when everyone was trying to get her to use checks and get credit cards. To her dying day, she said, "No thanks!"

When I was young I had high debt but now no. We only have mortgage debt on investments. We do not like high interest rates or any interest rates. It makes life easier.
