Points To Ponder When Making Comments

Comments

Whether asked to make comments on a property for sale or comments on written content on ActiveRain, consider how your words impact other people. After all, everything is subject to interpretation. A comment is merely an opinion, a response from your personal point of view.

Clutter

What is clutter? It's a collect of people's belongings, memories, an illustration of how a person lived, examples of what one thinks about life experiences, mementos from adventures, subjective pieces of art, other people's memories strung together in various places throughout a room, photographs in the MLS, photos on ActiveRain, objects personally tucked inside a bedroom, nick knacks and paddywacks hung like trophies on walls. Something stored on shelves, inside bookcases, etc. It is a collection of material goods, and snapshots of the life one lived. All clutter is personal to the buyer or the seller, the writer or the reader.

Smells

Some scents are obvious; others not so much. A smell is an odor of something pleasant, sweet, spicy, a distaste, something familiar or unfamiliar, a reminder from your past that triggers good or bad thoughts. The smell of leather, wet fur on a dog, dust, dirt, household cleaners, church candles, deodorizers, human smells. Everything smells good or bad, fresh or musty, clean or in need of sterilization, different or unusual; perhaps you're indifferent, more tolerant, or less. Even words written on paper or read in comments can conjure up events that took place previously in your life, something you read but you can't remember where you heard it, but it's clearly obvious you heard it all before and something looks or smells fishy.

In sum, what are comments? It's an interpretation of your own colorful or black and white thoughts, memories stored in the cloud, ideas triggered by other people, places, things, word content, and clutter stored in the attic of your mind. Sometimes there are no right or wrong answers.

Patricia's Tip of the Day:

©Comments represent popped up ideas from your reason and mind. Be kind.

Nick & Trudy Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - I found that talking to you in person or receiving/reading comments from you on ActiveRain is always natural, nurturing, and nice. You're exactly the type of person who I'd want to do business with and I would recommend to people moving to your area.

Susan Haughton - I greatly appreciate you featuring me in the "BananaTube Group! It was a very busy weekend and I didn't get a chance to say all my thanks, especially to you!

I'm happy to know I was feature worthy in your group. This group always puts a smile on my face and the yellow banana is always so bright and cheery!

Thank you!!!

Kathy Streib - Thank you so much for the kindness and encouragement to keep promoting positive feedback. It is part of who I am, and I know I'm perceived as being different. I rememer long ago, when I first started on AR, I was commenting; then commenting back when the author thanked me. I think it made him uncomfortable. I could tell, by his words. However, I didn't let him persuade me to be somebody else. It's nice to know that after all these years, I feel as if I've built great relationships with people in this industry, yourself included.

Kind Regards,

Patricia

John Pusa - We live in such a fast pace world. Many of us wake-up one day, and look in the mirror and realize, I missed a lot in life. I want to make sure, I always leave a trail of positive remarks and comments that hopefully people will remember.

Have a wonderful day.

Myrl Jeffcoat - Leaving a trail of positive remarks is as easy as brushing teeth. If one doesn't maintain good hygiene, the teeth will decay and suffer. I feel the same way about people. Establishing good rapport is about as close as I can get to changing the world.

It is wonderful to be on ActiveRain with people like you. Bob Stewart and those who were responsible for creating this platform did a very good thing.

Gary 'Banana' Houghtaling - You're doing great! I really appreciate hearing things from your perspective. As far as commenting or writing goes, don't think of it as a game, just be yourself!

You're a thinker. As Dr. Seuss would say, "Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!"

Belinda Spillman - The problem with people who don't filter their words is they don't care, and most don't even know the domino effect it has with other people. While some are still feeling bruised, the other is on to doing exactly what they did to make others feel uncomfortable; unless caught, made to to wiggle and squirm, or justify their actions, the behavior doesn't change.

Letting go of feelings is something many people have difficulty with. Be the spirit of hope to others and never let the mean spirit carry you off feeling bad.

Belinda, you're a beautiful soul.

Dear wise and wonderful Anna Banana Kruchten, CRS - "Comments tell the story on a continuing basis." It does keep people engaged to appreciate more from another person's perspective. People who connect, remember how good the other made them feel and more likely to stay connected in a positive way.

The right comment can be the quintessential means of the original message. This type of ritual expands beyond the pages it is written.

William Feela - Definitely! People can have a difference in opinion, but it never means, "get nasty." Constructive feedback is a voluntary gift without expecting anything back in return.

Roy Kelley - It is hard for me to imagine anyone wrting something back to you in a negative way. You are, like the good Godfather, someone I look up to! I find you to be highly intelligent, always helpful, wise, and you don't push people to think your way. May you and Dolores receive many blessings and connect with good people always.

Susan Haughton - I was on my way to Church when I received your comment. It was a long red light, and I read it. This is my first opportunity to respond back.

I am almost speechless as to the timing of when this was written and the event that took place just before you were about to provide feedback on a house. Telling me you stopped to think first, is the best gift I can get back from you or any other member on ActiveRain. We really do impact each other, don't we?

It took courage for you to refrain and rethink how you wanted to respond. I'm sure it made a difference to the recipient. The wrong words can slaughter hopes and dreams. I know you're not that type. We live on Adrenalin, quick responses, especially when we have so many other things to do. Yet every action is important. Every response can have consequences.

By the way, you and others here on ActiveRain have changed my life too. Thank you.

Aug 14, 2017 10:22 AM
Susan Haughton

Absolutely, words do have consequences and while I was annoyed at the listing agent's less than truthful description of the house, I had to stop and think about how the sellers would feel reading the feedback.  You never know if they are going to see it or not, but better to err on the side of caution.

Patricia Feager, words can make or break a person. It's very easy to let our fingers dance on the keyboard without even thinking about the author, their personality, challenges..we may not even know much about them. I personally try my best to use my words correctly and if I have nothing nice to say, I will move on. However, I also believe in being honest and upfront which can be done in a constructive way.

Patricia Feager I agree with Amanda S. Davidson and Brian England .  I feel we are all here for the same reason. Share ideas,  support each other, and get business.  Even on mundane posts I try to leave a positive comment.  On posts where my opinion is solicited, I do so in a mindful way.  Think of your comment as being a guest on someone elses blog post.

Not sure if I left a comment here before or not... it seems familiar.   I suppose this comment just adds to the clutter, but wanted to say something.  I try to keep comments positive too.
