Jim Cheney asked us to write about one thing that is personal to us outside of our business. Since there are two of us, we will include two passions we share as a couple both in business and in life.
We are passionate about lifelong learning. We are interested in a myriad of subjects. And in this fast moving changing world, we are continuously expanding our interests. There are no limits or parameters, when it comes to exploring an idea.
Both of us are voracious readers whether it is fiction or non-fiction genre. We are fortunate to have friends who are also engaged in lifelong learning and recommend books, videos, and ideas to us. We enjoy discussing new ideas and their effects on life around us.
One of the recent concepts we explored was the effect of artificial intelligence on mankind. It took over two years of critical thinking (the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment), research as well as numerous hours of discussions with both Dick Greenberg and Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD and to come up with the answer that made sense to us.
Lifelong learning for us includes being the best human possible every moment, and every day. We are consistently reminding ourselves on a daily basis to follow the Dalai Lama’s simple words, “Be kind whenever possible, it is always possible.”
We also work on being in the moment with each action we take. Our inspiration comes from the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, “Mindfulness helps you go home to the present. And every time you go there and recognize a condition of happiness that you have, happiness comes." This one is a challenge, but when we do things mindfully, we have found that we get them done that much faster and better.
These pursuits may be thought of as “outside” of our business. We both see them as integral to our business. They are integral to who we are as humans.
Thank you Jim for hosting this contest.
