Out With The Old, In With The... Old. Today Is National Thriftshop Day by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
If you have never gone to a Thift Shop, I can say in my own personal opinion that you are missing out! Some folks don't see the fun about them, but thankfully I am not one of those people. You can find amazing things in these stores! Clothes, toys, accessories, appliances, shoes... you name it! Yes, the things in the store are things their original owners didn't want, but one man's "trash" is another man's "treasure" as they say! While maybe neither of your kids have interest in the books you used to read to them as a child, there is without a doubt a kid out there who would love them. In today's society, we seem to think that if we don't want something, no one will and simply toss it out. I even once got an almost mint condition 1950's Wedgewood Stove for FREE (actually I paid their asking price, which was $50.00, so almost free).
I got it from some clients who bought the stove, used it for a year before having to move, their new home already had a good stove, and so the "old" one sat in their garage for years. Finally when they were moving again they decided they needed to get rid of it, but thought no one would want it. You can bet I voluenteered to take it off their hands! These models go for $6,000-$10,000 retail price now a days, yet this "hand-me-down" has continued to serve my family in our home for nearly a decade. Yes, thiftshop items aren't usually "free" like this, but their pricetags are often a considerable mark-down!
If you're worried you have too much stuff but want to still celebrate today, then you still can go! Just put together some of the items you find yourself not needing or wanting, put them in the car, then drive to the closest thrift shop to donate those items! Feel free to browse around after that though... after all, now you have some closet space!
