Farm Animals - Justin, Texas

Having a residential property under contract in Justin, Texas has given me a chance to get out of my city comfort zone and into the animal kingdom on the farm. I have enjoyed seeing buffalo, cows, donkeys, bulls, and horses too. Here are the latest photos I took of a cows eye, the bull (I just couldn't capture a bulls eye), donkey, and some cow hide.

Farm Justin

Odd as they may look, they were all just as curious to see me. We made each other vulnerable, except of course for cow hide, I just couldn't get her face! The fact that they made themselves available to greet me (or eat me) tells me (at least I want to believe) we can be sociably connected to the animal kingdom.

Donkey boy seemed to be most willing to get social with me. However, I kept my distance. The donkey runs gracefully to greet you! I enjoyed its company. Cow was not particularly crazy about me, but did come up to the barbed wire fence to poke its head out, touching the ground between barbed wire. Cow kept an eye on me the entire time.

Farm animals are magnificent creatures, so beautiful too. But I dare not challenge the bull. Bull's eye never stopped watching me. Yet, I was intrigued by their communication, suggesting that language barrier is possible. Spending enough time these past few weeks, driving down the country roads, stopping along the road sides to greet them, I'm convinced sound, smell, and gestures is universal to both humans and animals.

Patricia, animals definitely speak to us. Having grown up on a farm I had a lot of bonds with animals. They're very intuitive and I think that shows in your photos. Beautiful!

Patricia Feager When we get around animals, it brings us down to Earth and makes us appreciate the pure innocence of these creatures. Smart on the bull!

Hi Patricia don't be fooled by bulls. They will charge given a chance. Donkey are another story. There was a wild donkey in the preserve behind our home for years. I haven't seen him for 5 or 6 years now. When the kids were young they always wanted to bring apples hiking just in case they donkey appeared. As hard as they tried to feed him the donkey wouldn't come close enough. We left the apple and watched from a ways away until he came back to get it.

Patricia you'll find this funny but I'm chasing another animal around this morning it appears - Mr Banana!!!  Too funny.  I remember the donkey he's talking about. The kids named him but I don't recall what. Fun!

Hi Patricia - While we do have some farm animals around - and I especially enjoy the llamas - most of the animals I run into are either pets or wild. And I enjoy meeting them all - except that skunk that tagged my dogs a couple times not too long ago.

Hi Patricia,

You got some great shots of farm animals. I particularly like the one of the cow poking it's head under the barbed wire!  Nice!!

Hi Patricia... I admit it... as a city girl my fascination is primarily with domesticated animals like cats and dogs... but I'll stop for horses... they are such majestic creatures.

Hi Patricia. I believe we are all connected, and animals can be very aware of this at times. Love the photos, and your take on the farmyard animals that grace our countrysides.

I can appreciate like you the drives in the country and getting to see the animals and the peace and quiet. I used to do REOs and would on purpose take assignments to other counties just for quiet time.

Patricia,   Like you, I rarely get out far enough from my "area" to be around farm animals.  I do love nature, outdoors and animals. All animals. I respect them. Great photos and as always, a well written post that draws me in.  Thank you!
