Boar Statue in Sonoma Valley Wine Country

We've seen a number of boar statues on our travels, most of them in Italy. One was a very cool looking (as far as boars go) stuffed boar outside a butcher shop in the Piazza della Cisterna in San Gimignano, a very charming hill town in Tuscany and well worth a visit (we even had a boar dish at a local restaurant there, a common food in that area). We saw another in the town square in Greve in Tuscany, and no doubt others I am forgetting.

This boar statue was at a beautiful winery in the Sonoma Valley about 7 years ago - I believe it was the Viansa Winery.

Hi Jeff- I don't think I've ever seen a boar statue. That said, Larry had a stuffed Javelina once. Do you think that counts?

They are similar Kathy Streib and I say it counts. It's very popular in Brazil from what I recall.

The boar dishes I've had in Italy, depssite not eating much red meat, were very good.

HI Jeff - We did see a lot of Boar statues in Italy and Spain. Did you go to the Torture Museum in San Gimignano? It was really gruesome, lots of old torture implements and displays that showed how they were used. A couple made my skin crawl. Have a great weekend!

I love Piazza della Cisterna in San Gimignano! I stayed 10 days on the Organic Farm that was in walking trails to it a couple years ago! I missed the boar statute in Tuscany, but then again, I don't eat meat. What a cool statue! Now I want to go back to San Gimignano!!!
