I was very excited to plant some pretty Hibiscus bushes this summer which are in full bloom right now. These are a special strain of Hibiscus which are tolerant to the cold days of winter in Colorado (at least that's what THEY say).
As the blooms began opening up, our 7 year old golden retriever, Rocky, decided he really liked the taste of Hibiscus flowers.
Everytime he walked up to the bushes, he would pluck the flowers off one by one and devour them.
In order to keep the bushes in bloom, we had to buy another temporary fence to put around the bushes so that Rocky couldn't strip them of their blooms.
Now Rocky runs up to the bushes and stops in his tracks when he realizes he can't reach the blooms.
He looks a little sad about the whole situation but what can we do? Maybe they have dog food with Hibiscus flavoring in it....
