Hourly Minimum Wages By State

I thought it would be interesting to find out how minimum wages varied by states.  This doesn’t mean that people in one state is richer than the other because of the high cost of living. 

•          District of Columbia minimum wage: $12.50 ($1.00 increase)

•          Massachusetts minimum wage: $11.00 ($1.00 increase)

•          Washington minimum wage: $11.00 ($1.53 increase)

•          Connecticut minimum wage: $10.10 ($0.50 increase)

•          California minimum wage: $10.00 for small employers until 2018 (1-25 employees); $10.50 for larger employers ($0.50 increase).

•          Arizona minimum wage: $10.00 ($1.05 increase)

•          Vermont minimum wage: $10.00 ($0.40 increase)

•          Oregon minimum wage: $10.25

•          Alaska minimum wage: $9.80 ($0.05 increase)

•          New York minimum wage: $9.70 ($0.70 increase)

•          Rhode Island minimum wage: $9.60

•          Minnesota minimum wage: For large employers, with an annual sales volume of $500,000 or more, the minimum wage is $9.50; for small employers, with an annual sales volume of less than $500,000, the minimum wage is $7.75.

•          Colorado minimum wage: $9.30 ($0.99 increase)

•          Hawaii minimum wage: $9.25 ($0.75 increase)

•          Maryland minimum wage: $9.25 ($0.50 increase)

•          Nebraska minimum wage: $9.00

•          Maine minimum wage: $9.00 ($1.50 increase)

•          Michigan minimum wage: $8.90 ($0.40 increase)

•          West Virginia minimum wage: $8.75

•          South Dakota minimum wage: $8.65 ($0.10 increase)

•          Arkansas minimum wage: $8.50 ($0.50 increase)

•          New Jersey minimum wage: $8.44 ($0.06 increase)

•          Delaware minimum wage: $8.25

•          Illinois minimum wage: $8.25

•          Nevada minimum wage: $8.25 without health benefits; $7.25 with health benefits.

•          Ohio minimum wage: $8.15 ($0.05 increase)

•          Montana minimum wage: $8.05 ($1.10 increase)

•          Florida minimum wage: $8.10 ($0.05 increase)

•          Missouri minimum wage: $7.70 ($0.05 increase)

•          New Mexico minimum wage: $7.50

•          Oklahoma minimum wage: $7.25

•          Idaho minimum wage: $7.25

•          Indiana minimum wage: $7.25

•          Iowa minimum wage: $7.25

•          Kansas minimum wage: $7.25

•          Kentucky minimum wage: $7.25

•          North Carolina minimum wage: $7.25

In my area of Minnesota most places pay above minimum to start for full time and minimum for part time stating

Wow Susie Kay, Interesting blog, I did not know of the spread from state to state.  Wonder how some people can live on hourly that is so low.

I agree, Will Hamm . I used to live in the Bay Area (San Francisco) where the cost of living is extremely high and affordability is always an issue there. That's why I finally moved to Texas.
