Crisis Management

For some life seems centered around the crisis du jour.

So it makes sense that real estate mimics life in that aspect for those people.

Well..that is if you let it.  Right?

Please understand your crisis might not be my crisis.

And in fact -- I may not think of it as a crisis at all.

It’s that perspective thing. Again.

I will listen but don’t be upset if your crisis is not going to make it onto my "to do" list.  I simply may not have the time.

Okay - I haven’t used that particular script…

I have been tempted more than a few times this week.  There is no need to name the players in question.  I am sure we have met them at one time or another.

I get it.  I understand.  Stuff happens.

There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

Henry Kissinger

Any idiot can face a crisis - it's day to day living that wears you out.

Anton Chekhov

The crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow.

H. G. Wells

I do understand there are real crises.  I don’t mean to diminish them.

But let’s face reality.

I have said it before -- real estate is not brain surgery.

I repeat it to myself. It's almost a mantra.

And then I repeat it again. Just because.

Occasionally I add another word.

Perspective. Yes, that's the word I add...yes...really.

Note:  I say this to myself  although I am sure there are people who might be able to see the thought bubble appearing over my head.

I admit to eye rolling at times. And with a sigh, it becomes a dangerous combination when left uncontrolled.

Just some thoughts from the week.

Happy Saturday.

Because a good attitude is within our control even when surrounded by the crisis created by others.

Why is it that every office attracts at least one drama queen?  We have ours, and next the swarm flies near I will try " I will listen but don’t be upset if your crisis is not going to make it onto my "to do" list.  I simply may not have the time"

The fact that there are so many crises in real estate is because too many agents think they are performing surgery.  One must be diligent, vigilant, and scrupulous but without waving the scalpel around.

Hi Michael,

Congrats on the feature!

Another wonderful set of ponderings today.  I have to agree with you, there may be moments of truth, or turning points but drama is what magnifies a "crisis". I prefer finding solutions because there are always solutions!

Crisis or not a crisis has a lot to do with our mindset . . . .  how we look at things.

Good luck and success.

Love this post Michael Jacobs, some just love to sweat the small stuff, just who they are. Drama..drama..drama..So much easier to be positive even in the midst of a crisis.

I try to keep crisis to a minimum - just suck it up and let it keep me up at night and give me heartburn.  With  our crazy market with NO Contingencies it can make the appraisal and the jumbo loan with only 10% down...a bit uncomfortable.  The good thing about a crisis...you feel soooo good when it is over!

Yes, we have all experienced this, I'm sure. If we are talking about clients, I've gotten quite good at turning those crisies into nearly nothing...most of the time. After all, we are the professional able to handle anything that comes  up....most of the time.

Some people prefer the state of crisis as a daily way of life....it can be exhausting to work with them. Being able to choose whether to work with them or not is a wonderful thing.

Dear Michael,

The best crisis is the one avoided. I like a pleasantly boring work life. Crises do not do much for me, although sometimes, stuff happens. If it is not life & death, let's see how we can address it.

I have found that many crisis arise from poor planning and poor scheduling.

I do not enjoy dealing daily with a crisis, so I take steps to reduce them.

Michael, you are so right, there are agents that want to make every transaction a crisis, and they don't need to.
