YouTube Alternatives

I'm a YouTube fan just like the rest of the world, but there are times when the quality doesn't quite live up to expectations. One of my favorite sites is BrightCove, but I've tested it here and their embed code is not working on ActiveRain. But Veoh.com does. See Below. You'll notice how crisp the text looks in this video. The downside of Veoh is the length of time it takes to render the video.

Below is what it looks like when you try to embed BrigthCove content. A direct link for comparison is here.

To anyone on the team at ActiveRain, BrightCove is a great video alternative. I know it's asking a lot, but your suppoort of their embed would be great.  :)

Hey JT, who got hit you or your lady?  looks like the 'sights' were a little off!  this video embedding is going to be a blast. I just happened to take the jet ski for a spin in the lake last weekend, and i'm going to work on attach my water-proof housing for my digital camera to it. Gonna take AR for a ride jumping waves in the ocean.. :)

Hey Jeff!  Long time no see - I see the real difference, a really great tool - was that you getting hit by the rock?

02/28/2007 10:17 PM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Majestic Properties)

Nick and Ines, yes, that is me getting hit in the head. That's what you get for standing in the way of a three year old throwing rocks!

Fran, I also attempted to use our RealEstateShows.com embed code. As you can see below, it also does not work. Both BrightCove, com and RealEstateShows.com, use call outs to flash, so that may be the issue. Both embed codes work with TypePad blogs. Here is what happens with the RealEstateShows.com embed code.

Looks great to me - I have to figure out how to do "embed codes" - better than the whole link thing - but you're talking to a non-techy that was just taught how to change colors and size with HTML.....one step at a time with me.

Ines, with YouTube and most of the video sites, the embed code is provided and all you need to do is copy and paste it into the html of the post.  See the yellow highlighted area.

Ines..it's okay to baby-step it little by little. make sure to only call me if you need help AND have time.. cause i'll kick into nerd gear and keep you on the line forever ;)

Thank you Jeff!!  See I learned something else today!  I'm goint to try to go play with it!  You're the BOMB!

Nick, I'm not seeing it on my mac. I'm going to fire up my virtual PC and see if that helps.

03/01/2007 08:24 AM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Nick, you're right. It's showing fine on the PC, but not on the Mac. It's still something going on with the AR side, I'm assuming, since this exact same code works fine on my wife's blog when viewed from the MAC. BrightCove uses flash, just like we do, and it's not working still on the PC, so there is some realted issue. Good to know our embed code works on the PC. I'm off to talk to the Rain gods about a fix.

03/01/2007 08:29 AM by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows)

Sure MAC, blame it on PC!! haha :)

You know, I hate to admit it publically, but I'm pastng a youtube embedd code into the HTML and cant get the darn thing to work.

here is the code: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

here it is embedded.. see ? doesn't work.. and i know HTML. man i feel dumb.

EDIT a few hours later becuase I was busy creating a MACK-DADY post and hopefully raised the bar.

JEFF you're explanation rocks. (see Jeff's link two comments down).. i figured ouy my problem over here..

Here is what I found to be the problem (for me), at least for my embedding of the code.  I removed this from the above sample code.. <object width="425" height="350">

also remove the closing 'tag' for 'object' which looks like this.. </object> <--take this last part out.. so the code in essence is like this:

BEFORE:(DOES NOT WORK) copy and paste from youtube:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

(remove the underlines parts)

AFTER: WORKS!! YAY..

<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>

ok. lets enjoy the vid then..yooo hoooo!!

{SVW Hubba}...

Thump. Oh! Sorry. That was me banging my head against the wall. It goes very nicely with the 3 year old nailing you with a rock :)

I'm having a really hard time figuring all this out. That's my payback for ignoring the Internet for the last 12 years. Sometimes I swear you people are all speaking a foreign language :)

Not only do I have to learn all this from scratch (ROAR) I have to turn right around and teach it to the Broker. Here at Tutas Towne Realty I AM the closet thing that we have to a geek. SVW...

TLW...ROAR!

YouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune.

YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time.

Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.
