"IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE TOUGH"

"It's supposed to be tough," I told my friend today outside of the Naperville Starbucks.

He was feeling bad.  Bad for me.  He had been reading my blog.

"I just don't want to read any more about you that rips my heart out," he said.

Wow, I thought.  It rips your heart out?

"It's supposed to be tough right now.  I am just getting started.  My business grows every day.  They say this is the worst real estate market since the depression.  It's supposed to be tough right now."

I hope that made him feel better.

I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me because of my stories.

I am going to make it.  There is no doubt.

I just think writing about my struggles will enhance my story when I do "make it" big time in real estate.

So please, don't worry about me.

Things are going to be just fine.

Ken

Good evening Ken- You are right, very few sales jobs are easy when you start, sales jobs get easier as we build our base of customers.

Hi Solaris.  Thanks for stopping by.  I am building that base.  It is getting big.

Ken - if us newer agents can make it now, we can make it through anything. What goes around comes around and we WILL have our good times!

Hi Ken- I was told by a Broker/Owner, who has been in the business for many years that it is the new agents that come in during this market that will learn the most from it. We will survive and have a knowledge of how to really market ourselves.

Your blogs are great!

Hi Barbara.  Hi Sharon.  Thanks for stopping by.

It makes me laugh.  It's all a test to see how much pain we can take.

Ken, I can relate to you, it hasent been easy but we will make it and then look out good times--Bart

Hi Ken,

If you can make it now you'll make it any time.  It is much harder to start in an easy market and go into a difficult market than to start in a hard market and go into an easy market.

I opened my office in October of 1987, twelve days after the stockmarket crash and the year many disadvantageous tax law changes came into effect.

It was TOUGH! but I was new, ignorant and enthusiastic.  Looking back, I learned a tremendous amount and got through it.  I saw 5 Agencies close in my area and I got through it.

People say that must have been rough, I agree, but I always say, it would have been worse if I opened a year earlier, where I would have had an easy year then gone into a really tough market.

I never knew the easy market, so I lived the hard market.

For all you new agents, if you can get through this you will be fine in the future.

The thing that will help you in this market more than anything is ENTHUSIASM.  If you are happy and excited about Real Estate, you will look better than most of the agents out there.

The homebuying experience should be FUN!

Hang in there, have fun with it and stay enthusiastic.

All the best!

Hi Ken,

If you can kick a little booty, just a little in a down market - you've prevailed. This is the time to earn you stripes & respect. Get'r done!

"Busy is better than blogging" -- you said it, not me. Thanks for your comment on my post. If you're still buying Starbucks, it can't be that bad!

Sounds to me like you are going to be just fine.  Staying focused, determined, specific, and positive?  Yes, you will make it.  I hope you set short and long term goals.  It is the single most important tool in my opinion.

Hi Melody.  Thanks for stopping by.  Goals?  I must say they are easy to get away from.

My short term goal?  Sending out 100 hand written notes.  I am at 18 right now.

Ken, I admire your optimism and your perseverance.  I know you will continue to grow and grow.  However, I hope to find you a good referral for some low hanging fruit someday!

Hi Derricks.  Thanks for stopping by.  And I want some low hanging fruit!!!

I showed homes yesterday, this morning, perhaps this afternoon, and tomorrow morning!

Getting busy,
