Our Relationships With Others Mirrors the One We Have With Ourselves
At a luncheon once, one of the guests said something that has always hit home with me.
Until we like ourselves and are comfortable in our own skin, it is hard to focus on and be supportive of others.
Think back on some of your favorite managers or leaders. One of the most effective and well-liked managers I worked under wanted us to succeed...she supported what we did and encouraged us when we wanted to try something new or different.
She had no ego to satisfy and felt comfortable being who she was.
It was easy to see that she genuinely was happy for others when they did well.
It did not go unnoticed, either. We were always willing to do whatever she asked of us; we succeeded for her, and we all grew individually with her as our manager.
With that in mind, what about the relationships we have...in our personal lives or work?
If you’re always finding fault with those around you...look in the mirror.
If you cannot stand it when someone around you succeeds...look in the mirror.
Make it a point each day to find a reason to like yourself.
Learn to forgive the mistakes you’ve made and celebrate your triumphs.
Do yourself a favor ...like yourself a little bit more.
