This month I am hosting an ActiveRain challenge and I happened to notice that some folks are having difficulty inserting a link back to their blog in a comment. This is the easiest way to track entries when hosting a challenge. When the participant does not provide a LIVE Link back to their entry, it causes lots of extra steps for the person hosting the challenge.
This is also helpful when writing a post about something that you want to reference on the web.
Let's say you are writing about the Rocky Mountain National Park.
It is helpful if you provide a link to an external website so that the reader can gather more information about your blog subject.
Hopefully these steps will help those who still need a little clarification when it comes to inserting a LIVE link in their post.
If you want to generate a link to Your Blog, click on My Blog.
Here you will see a menu of recent blogs you have posted.
Right Click on the post you want to generate a link to.
Scroll down to Copy Link Address.
This information will be stored in your Clipboard for future use.
Go to the comment you want to create.
In the comment dialog box, click on the link symbol.
A dialog box will pop up.
On the URL line, right click and PASTE your link.
This is the address stored in your clipboard from earlier.
The program automatically fills in the URL address in the next field titled "Text to Display". You can either let it auto populate, or you can change the wording in that field. Make sure not to alter the link data in the URL field.
Leave TARGET to NEW WINDOW. This lets the person keep your original post open while being able to view your outside link.
The Live Link will be highlighted in Blue and the text will be underlined. This is an indication that your Live Link was inserted correctly.
Now you are ready to start linking to outside posts and resources.
