This post was inspired by my Active Rain friend Jim Cheney he asked us to write about the human side of us. In other words, not the standard “Beverly Hills Realtor Top Producer Persona” that everyone is exposed to, just to use as an example.
I had to think hard, since those of you who have been following my blogs over the years knows the human side of me already: The Pet Friendly, book loving reader/collector, Gourmet Food & Wine connoisseur and cook Endre Barath.
So, what could I share, that might not have been shared before? Well as I kept procrastinating about the human side of me, many things happened, the hard part was to decide which one to write about.
Diane and I support numerous Animal Rescue Organization financially and she also Volunteers not just helping the animals, but participating in fundraisers and the list goes on and on. We have three cats, one she picked from the Lange Foundation and the other two walked into our home, one in Marina Del Rey and the other here in Westchester. Funny part was, that they both liked coming through the back door😊. Anyway, you get the idea that the word is out at work, in our neighborhood and even on the internet, that we are those crazy animal lovers and supporters.
The night before last, the neighbor’s son, knocked on our door. Just as a background he is in his mid-twenties and comes to see mom and dad, in turn he gets a free dinner and his laundry gets done as well. Anyway, he is holding a tiny little kitten and wanted to know if it was ours? We explained that now the little creature was not ours. We have a full house and there is no room for one more. Diane and I immediately went into ‘sales mode’. Spare kitty litter box, spare carrying case, spare kitty litter, and yes you guessed it spare food. He immediately receives a quick lesson on the need to go to the Vet for vaccination, tests etc.
Twenty minutes later he is sold on the idea, that either he or his girlfriend should adopt this poor helpless creature.
So, with that said, for the past two days we have been crossing each other’s paths and we are anxiously waiting as to how things are going? When Diane is home and I am not, or vice versa the same question comes up: did you see him? Any news?
Anyway, if you have pets you understand my point, if you do not have one or more, keep in mind they greet you at the door when you arrive. They kiss your face if you let them. They trust you, that you will always take care of them, give them shelter, food and love. In turn they give you unconditional love and to me that is the best part.
So, with that said there is no reason to “buy” a pet, when there are so many animals that need a home. Go to your nearest Animal Rescue Organization in your town or go to the Shelter and save a life or two. They might save your life. If you have allergies and that is the reason you cannot have any pets then dig in your wallet and help the local rescue organizations in their quest to have a “no kill nation”.
