This is a "special event" sponsored by Frost and Air Force Village of San Antonio. Will be held downtown Hemisphere Plaza at the Institute of Texan Cultures.

A TRIBUTE TO AMERICA'S MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN

May 25, 2008
2:30 p.m.

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures proudly presents Memorial Memories, a musical tribute to America's military men and women. The  19-piece Big Band sounds of the Sentimental Journey Orchestra under the direction of Ted Conerly, and the lively Memphis Belles trio will present original arrangements of the swing and jazz standards of the Big Band era.

The musical performance will be accompanied by powerful film clips and photos presented on the overhead screens of the Exhibit Floor performance area. Particularly meaningful to veterans and their families, the event will honor every branch of the military and those who have served and are serving at home and abroad.

Due to the generous support of Frost and Air Force Villages, admission to Memorial Memories is complimentary. Donations will be accepted and are greatly appreciated.

Light refreshments will be available during the intermission. As seating will be limited, guests are encouraged to arrive early. Bus parking will be available off Bowie Street.

After you visit the Institue of Texan Cultures you can take a ride up to the top of the Hemisphere Tower (named Hemisphere Tower in 1968 when San Antonio hosted the World's Fair). Now called Tower of the America's. Ceil worked one block from Hemisphere at that time and watched the top as it went up foot by foot each dayl until it reached the top.

There is an observation deck at the top to view San Antonio. The restaurant at the top revolves and is beautiful day or night. Sunset is an excellent time.

You can stroll down to the San Antonio Riverwalk, enjoy the scenery and shops.

Dale - Thank you for stopping by and leaving such nice graphics.

I updated my skin wth the red, white and blue, made it a little different. What do you think?  I like the patriotic look. I am so proud to be an American and have the opportunity to live in the land of the free. I just  can not understand why so many people live here and talk so badly against America. We have so much to be thankful for and everyday you just hear one negative comment after another on the news.

Take care Dale and thank you for stopping.

    Carl and Ceil:

Another great post with pictures. I miss Ronald Reagan who made us proud to be Americans everyday. I hope we can get back to that over the next few years.

Alan - We feel the same way. We believe some folks have lost their way and need to stop and evaluate what it has take to make this country so great. History tells the true story.

    Hi Carl & Ceil,
Honoring our military men and women is something we should do every day but this Memorial Day week-end is a special time set aside for just that.  Looks like this will be a great event and a wonderful time to honor these heroic men and women.  Thank you.

Cynthia: Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Yes, I agree, this entire weekend should be recognized and dedicated to our military and their families. Seems like many are too busy to take notice but the few of us that do can continue to spread the meaning of such an honorable memory.
