Habits: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly...
In fairness to disclosure, one of my favorite Spaghetti Western movies is “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”. So, with that said I am providing a link to the sounds track portion of the theme song…. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (2.42 min) when the movie came out I was too young to see this movie, because it was rated 16 years or older. I told my parents to go and ever since that time, my mother had a quiet love/ infatuation with Clint Eastwood.
When I saw the Active Rain Challenge of our friend Debbie Reynolds I knew I had to participate just based on the Title, the friendship just the sealed the deal.
The Good Habits:
Since it is time for true confessions, let me share with you, that I am a creature of habit and not a big fan of change. I basically I do the same things pretty much at the same time. When it comes to getting up, checking emails, responding to emails and answering the phone, the list goes on and on. Our neighbors used to comment and laugh, that I walk our dog at the same time in the afternoon, late afternoon and evening, one of them said, “…I could set my watch to your walks...” Hence it is easy for me to be such an obsessive time blocker, because it feeds and helps my habits. I joke around that, one of the reasons Diane and I are together is, because I do not like change😊. This of course I consider the good, because clients can always depend on my advice, since they know I will out of habit respond and it will always be consistent, since their interest is my number one objective. Other agents love working with me when I represent the sellers or the buyers, because they get the same person transaction after transaction no drama just let’s get to the closing table where everyone wins.
The Bad Habits:
I have many bad habits, if you want the entire list just ask Diane and she will be happy to provide you with the list😊. She lets me know daily, just in case I am not sure, or by chance might forget. So, with that said, I will share one of my bad habits: I am a workaholic if it was not for her, I would not have any social life, she puts everything on the Calendar and that way I work around those dates and time block them. Just as an example we have friends who tell us a year in advance when they are coming and anyone less than a week notice will more than likely be denied. When Diane wants to go out to dinner, it is also scheduled in advance. This is to prevent, that I do not set up a conflicting dinner with a client. She celebrates birthdays and holidays and she reminds me to make sure I do not forget to block the times off. The good news is, my clients love it, because Holidays, weekend and weekdays do not matter to me and they know they can reach out to me from early morning to late at night.
The Ugly Habits:
As I mentioned before, Diane knows them all, many I have eliminated over the years. Just to give a few examples, when I was in High School I gave up Coke/Pepsi and that was a very long time ago…. 25+ years ago I gave up a daily habit of smoking three packs of Marlboro cigarettes and the list goes on and on.
To eliminate, the ugly habits, as far as I am concerned, you need “to see the light” before you can break them, at least that is the case with me. One of my ugly habit has been keeping everything, papers, documents and even clothing. The thought process was, just in case I might need it, I admit it, I have been a pack rat. Diane was and is, the throwaway Queen, so it has been a good balance overall.
So, with that said, lets fast forward a life time of ugly habits to a few months ago… I had a listing where the owner was a hoarder and it took us two months to get the house ready to be listed, since “all the stuff” that needed to be moved out. I finally saw the light!!!
So, about a couple months ago, I started getting rid of “stuff”. The disabled veterans, I am sure appreciate the clothing donations. In conjunction with our office move to Rodeo Drive at least four boxes of documents have been shredded. My storage room has been closed down after 20 years, and my home office is being “freed up” from papers….
