Almost Speechless Sunday: The Loveliness Of Roots

This photo was taken as we were walking through a forest on a small uninhabited island in Alaska. We stopped and admired the lovely curving root formation of the tree on the right, and once again delighted in Nature's creativity.

Hi Ron & Alexandra,

I was struck by the exposed roots and thought about how a tree can become so vulnerable (just like people) when the roots are exposed. Trees can become weak and topple. Anytime you see a toppled tree, you see the roots snapped and left bare in the elements. Just my Sunday ramblings....!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® we always welcome ramblings, and this tree was going to hang on for a long time.  Nature found the curve to keep it standing upright for a while.  There were so many wonderful roots to view that were living sculptures. Even the felled trees were sculptural.  A

Hi Ron and Alexandra- the roots of the tree on the far right looks like they are in movement down the slope.

I was thinking this very thing yesterday while driving back from Waikoloa Beach. During my first visit to Hawai'i Island, I thought it looked like a scene out of the movie Tank Girl. Desolate. Awful. War zone. But now that I live here part time, I find the landscaping beautiful, a huge variety of color and climate zones.

Tree roots are beautiful in and of themselves.

That picture is a testament to the endurance of those trees.  You can see how they have clung on, even as their very soil and nutrients were being swept away.
