MY HABITS, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY

By
Education & Training with Performance Development Strategies

The challenge has come from Debbie Reynolds for us to air out our laundry, the good, bad, and ugly! Honestly, we all have habits and many of those habits need to be eliminated.  It is not always easy to share but here are mine.

THE GOOD

I have always been organized and focused.  This comes from my being a very high "D" for those of your who follow DISC the assessment.  That means when I say yes to a project there is no way I will let anyone down.  I usually work quickly and try to finish before schedule.  I am persistent and don't quit.

THE BAD

This may sound strange for a business coach but because of my very high "D" I tend to be demanding.  Yes I have learned over's te the years to dial it back.  When I was a young 20 something manager.  Sometimes when you are too demanding and follow every policy to the nth degree you win the battle but lose the war if you know what I mean.  Even sometimes now when I see something I want to jump on it rather than further evaluating.  That is my results orientation behavior and it is not necessarily all bad.

THE UGLY

In my case I would have the ugly as something in my younger years.  I would say I always loved cars and speed.  I passed my drivers test on 3 weeks after I was 16.  I really was under the control of my parents and their car until I bought my own just before graduating from high school.  Then I seemed to get a few speeding tickets so many that I had to get my own insurance.  A very scary thing happen when I was working and living in Long Island.  I dozed off and hit the side of a sign which woke me instantly and scaped the side of my car.  That is all in the past and I have not gotten a ticket for years.  I grew up.

Good and Bad Habits

So anyway I try to leverage my good habit and minimize the bad one.  The ugly is gone.

I use to have a heavy foot, not so much now. I had a few tickets when I was younger :)

Hi there Grant. It sounds as if you have a good grasp of self-knowledge. That's pretty powerful for managing and eliminating some of our human behavior that is less than ideal. Thanks for sharing. D

It's good you grew up and got rid of the ugly speeding habit. It's amazing the things we do as kids; when we look back we are lucky to be alive.

Hi Grant, I am a high D as well but have learned to modify it and not be so pushy and in control. Thanks for sharing your story.

Exactly. You don't want that rebellious worker to come back at you with some vicious vibes. You want everybody to left everybody up.

How lucky you were to get a wake up call without any physical injury! That's a lesson that could have come at a much higher cost!

Sharon Tara don't we kind of all want to wake up call like that, both metaphorically and actually? Do you know what I mean?

I think when we are young we may have some ugly habits and looking back it is good to grow out of them...and cheaper as well.
