One of the things I remember the most that Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD son, told us about Alaska is that "Nothing in Alaskan nature goes to waste."  This photo is an example of it.  What you are saying is tree roots that have been sculpted into a free form shelving unit.  It has a lot of nooks and crannies, and it even has window to the lake beyond.
