One of the grandest of Scottish traditions has to be the highland games. From May to September, Scotsmen show off their strength and agility to the townsfolk. In addition to such "manly" feats as the caber toss and hammer throw, everyone dance to traditional Celtic music, eat grand Scottish food and basically embrace their Celtic heritage to its fullest. But not everyone makes it over to Scotland to experience this in person. Instead, leave the passport at home and visit Tulsa ScotFest 2017 this weekend. Watch the highland games, enjoy some whisky tasting and have a great time.

Tulsa ScotFest 2017
First of all, you can't have a Tulsa ScotFest 2017 without the highland games. If you've never seen how the Scots compete, you're in for a real treat. The events include:
- caber toss - large pole over 19 feet tall
- hammer throw - round metal ball (between 12 and 16 lbs for women, 16 and 22 lbs for men) at the end of a four foot long wooden shaft
- sheaf toss - throwing a straw-filled burlap bag using a pitchfork over a bar raised above competitor's head
- weight for height - tossing a steel or leaded weight above a bar raised over the thrower's head
Feats of strength make up only one portion of the Tulsa ScotFest 2017 festivities, however. Next...music. While traditional bagpipes and folk music reign supreme, guests also enjoy Scottish alt-rock bands. Then, another treat granted to festival goers comes in the form of the Highland Dancers. After that, laugh along to some of the best Scottish comedians around. Learn all about Scottish history, including the different Celtic clans, their origins and each clan's official tartan. Nosh on such traditional Scottish foods as haggis, shepherd's pie, Forfar birdies, neeps and tatties and Scotch eggs. Wash that all down at the whisky tasting. Finally, we don't want to forget the kids. Visit the kids glen for arts and crafts, mini highland games and inflatable fun.
Tulsa ScotFest 2017 Tickets
Ticket costs for Tulsa ScotFest 2017 vary, depending on the event you wish to attend. Fat Tire Friday (21+ only) costs $5 per person. A single day general admission on Saturday or Sunday runs $10 per adult, $5 per child ages 6 to 12 and free for kids under six. Grab a three day general admission ticket for $25 per person or a VIP three day pass for $56 each. Whisky tastings run $30 each and take place on Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 7pm.
