"My Cousin Rachael" Movie Classic See The Haunting Love Story Preview

My Cousin Rachael  missed the chance to see it in the theater . I did however have the opportunity to see it as a rental . What a thriller when it was made originally . It introduced Richard Burton in 1952 in the starring male role  and he was nominated for an Oscar .  Olivia de Havilland also gave an outstanding performance

 

This eerie haunting romantic love story of my Cousin Rachael that was played so well by Rachael Weitz . Still makes one wonder is it love lust passion or greed . How does one become so obsessed with another person . What is the answer to this mysterious haunting love obsession .

 

Did she murder Ambrose' . He left the estate because of an illness  He met Rachael abroad fell in love and they married . Philip was raised by his cousin.  Suddenly he received mysterious letters from Ambrose  ?  Rachael his cousin said was trying to kill him . Come at once his cousin Ambrose  said I am being poisoned . Philip races to Ambrose  who has died of a brain tumor. He inherited all his cousin  owned . 

 

When Rachael comes to visit Philip he  falls madly in love .

 

The 1952 version was so wonderful  and the acting so splendid .

It would be difficult to top it

Watch this Daphne du Maurier remake

Good morning Hannah Williams,

The older films were so well presented and there was such an aura about the actresses and actors. Now they have taken their political agendas to new heights and have forgotten the buying public of their films has put them in their high earnings bracket. I don't go to as many films as I use to because of their attitudes and also because they aren't near the quality or substance as before. Don't get me wrong I still love to see a good movie and thank you for your recommendation..I'm just more selective now than I was before.

There was something so much more magical in the older movies.  The other night, Larry &  I couldn't turn off a movie that was made long ago, but now I can't remember its name...but it was intriguing!

Debbie Reynolds  i love the classics . Watch them more often then not . My chilchren never understood how I coud watch black and white films but I love them .The remake however is in vivid color

Endre Barath, Jr. I will be damned If politics will stop me from doing or enjoying something I love . A meladrama about  love story from the 19th century from the BBC  holds no political agenda to me ..

James Dray i am so sorry you dislike movies so much . This one you can watch in the privacy of your home .

Dorie Dillard I understand .In this case I thought this movie was beautifully done .The scenery and  and costumes where exquisite . i like period movies to be honest I did not expect to like it and was pleasantly surprised . A haunting tale that keeps you wondering . Well worth my time and dime

Meryl Streep can keep her movies Endre Barath, Jr.  I disliked her little speech at the Oscars . Mary Louise can keep her political views to herself .Even if I agreed no need to push them on others very inappropriate in my book . Not the time or the place to air them . Politics and movies do not mix . It is not the 1950's ya know what I mean ? McCathyism is dead

George Souto  Richard Burton was one of my very favorite actors .  Love him in a movie called Anne of the 1000 Days  . He plays Henry the Eighth  and does it   with such power . Another one of my very favorite movies .

Hi.  I am addicted to old movies.  As a matter of fact, I just realized they are featuring Carole Lombard movies tonight on Turner Classic Movies.  I did see the original My Cousin Rachel many years ago.  I remember Olivia de Havilland  talking about making a tisane, which of course is an herbal tea.  I'm looking forward to seeing the new version.
