Annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival - Today!

There is a fun activity available today in the Greater Sacramento Community of Fair Oaks.  The Annual Chicken Festival will occur in Old Fair Oaks Village, from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.  Family and kid friendly, this event is always a hoot, or at least a cluck.

The Village is the unique older historic section of the greater Fair Oaks community, located on the bluffs along the beautiful American River. It is one of my favorite places to visit when I have extra minutes and need to decompress from life’s outrageous busyness. In its relaxed and casual environment a considerable population of Chickens, rule the roost, and nearly outnumber the human residents.

It is not unusual to wander through the little park in the village center, and immediately be encircled with a "herd" of the feathered citizens expecting food gifts to enhance their day.  I always feel guilty if I arrive empty handed.

The Old Fair Oaks Bridge near the Village center has been closed to automobile traffic for generations; but restored for the use of bikes and foot travel.  From the bridge, the views of the American River are stunning as light transitions with the day traveling across the water.

The history of Fair Oaks began with a Spanish Land Grant in the mid 1800s.  The Village Park hosts a variety of events during the year, including The Annual Chicken Festival, and Theatre Festival at the Amphitheater.

Do you want to get away from it all without leaving the city?  Then linger awhile in Fair Oaks Village It promises to delight!

Now that's a cool local event.  A Chicken Festival.  I would have to stop by that area if I ever make it out your way.

Myrl now that is a different kind of Fair.  The Fairs are starting to heat up around here so I will be posting blogs about some of them.

That's different! The closest thing I've noticed in our area has been wild turkey crossing a dirt road!

That would be fun to see, Myrl. I remember all the chickens wandering around in the Grand Caymans and how the locals totally ignored them.

I would love to know the story behind the chickens.  Why are they there?  I would love to attend this event.  I've recently grown rather fond of chickens. I know a rooster that would love to attend with me.

Hi Myrl, does this herd of feathered citizens belong to anyone? or I'm guessing they are like wild birds?  The Chicken Festival in Fair Oaks sounds interesting and like a lot of fun!

Hi, Myrl -- what a fun post -- who knew that September 16 was not only Mexican Independence Day but also the annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival?

Hey Myrl: I had a listing off of Fair Oaks about 6 blocks down the road. An impressive newer home of more than 5,000 square feet, all set to go on market mid-September. Just waiting for photos. Figured it could coincide with the Chicken Festival. What luck!! Then, at the last minute, the seller said she simply could not bear to sell now and asked would I cancel the listing, which I always do if the client wants. In fact, I managed to find a way to make it vanish from MLS as though it never existed in the first place, LOL.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

I never heard of an annual chicken fest but doesn't it sound like fun! I can only imagine how it sounds when the chickens start clucking and spreading their wings! It's wonderful to have fun and this event surely will be one to remember! I once read that chickens are very intelligent too!
