filling station

This delightful photo shows a real filling station!  The station is right beside the street and looks as if it has only one gas tank.  The gentleman filling up the tank has probably been told to "fill 'er up" and at the slightly over 25 cents-per-gallon charge, it will not cost much.  That gentleman would also check under the hood, wash the windows, check the tires and give you a big smile and lots of local interest conversation!  THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS?

 P. S.  While remembering notice the rolled up jeans.  The jeans were not allowed to drag the ground but were cuffed and showed off the perhaps penny-loafer shoes.

Lisa, that would be nice to have 25 cent gasoline again.

Chuck, thank you for stopping by.

Shaun, we did eat together.  I see there is a cafe in this service station.

Cyd, the attendant probably knew more than the beauty shop ladies!

Cheryl, my children say they still remember having meals together.  No TV during meals.  No distractions.  Just family time.

Don, even I can't remember gas wars with gas being 5 cents!  But I was too poor to have a car is probably why I don't remember.

Michael, we still have two full service stations in Searcy AR.  I patronize one of them faithfully.

I grew up in a small town (800) where we had one little grocery store, a laundromat, a gas station and 2 bars! Typical country town! I totally remember my mom buying $5.00 worth of gas and the attendent (Mr. Rodenbaugh) cleaning our wind shields and checking the oil and our tire pressure.

Konnie, it is not too late to try.  You are an adventurous person (I can tell by your picture) and it might be a lark to see how technical is is.  But....there are no attendant jobs open except in New Jersey!!  : )

James, thank God for New Jersey....except for the expected tips.  : (

Jim, but see the comment above.  : (

Charles, that's a new style.  Jeans used to cover everything!!  Except on plump plumbers.  Have a nice Sunday!!

Anita, thanks for commenting and telling us the true story of this photo.  It is a very interesting story and full of fun!  Imagine someone taking your dad's car and having the photo taken.  I think it is very nice of you to let me use this old photo and others planned. Thanks and continue telling us about them.

Ahhh the good old days. Geez I'm starting to sound like my dad.

The customer service was a little more sincere and the thank you was real.

Barbara -  No, I hadn't read it.  However, I've read it now.  It's really interesting.  Thanks for sharing!  :)

Love the picture Barbara.  I still get my gas at the same Chevron station I've been going to for 25 years.  I could find cheaper gas by a few pennies but they still know what customer service is all about... Some things are worth holding on to, don't ya think?

Actually the gas was 25.9 cents per gallon...basically 26 cents. Those sneaky marketers. ;)

Thanks for sharing the photo. :)

Cheers, -B

Bryce, you noticed!  They were sneaky back then too!  Making us think gas was only a quarter a gallon!  Shame on them.

Jesse and Clifton, I do the same thing.  Wonderful people still have the full-service station in Searcy.  I pay the extra for them to do all the little things for full service.  To me, it is the same as giving a tip for service in a restaurant.

Hi there Barbara, Nice Photo, very nostalgic... on the flip side: Yes also back then the UST underground storage tanks leaked a lot and they use to pour the old oil on the ground to keep the dust down, those were the good old days! We still have a few of these old gas stations around that are clean up sites.

Barbara,

I am way too young to remember those days. Heck, when I was young gas was in the .35 per gallon region. Glad I am not old

Steven, I really don't remember the price of gas because I was too poor for a car.  Even my folks probably didn't have a car. Walking has always been free!

Gary, see comment above!  Thanks for comments!

Good ol days indeed.  I saw on the news today that in the Netherlands gas is up to $9.62/gal. and of course they couldn't help point out that in Saudi Arabia it is .45 cents/gal. I live in Buffalo, NY and filled up yesterday at an Indian Reservation to save money.  I still paid 3.94/gal.  It cost $65 to fill the tank and I had to pump it myself!  It' interesting that the cost of everything is going up because of gas prices and yet we drive a large percentage of the time for our work but our commission isn't going up.

Terri, thanks for the comments.  I wonder what will be happening in the future.  The price of gas will certainly be making a big difference.
