Being a REALTOR®, some of our business is divorce. Some actually specialize in divorce cases, and glad most of my business is regular sales.
Going on the listing appointment when there is divorce that is imminent can be tense, especially if both are sitting at the kitchen table. You have to be careful with your conversation, especially if you have been close throughout the years. You have tears, strong words (slang/foreign language?), and arguments at times. There usually is Kleenex involved. Sometimes these listing appointments must be separate, due to restraining orders sadly. When there are kids involved you always hope all will work out in their best interest, even if the kids are grown.
The hardest part is when you have assisted this family sell their primary home, each has gone their own way, but one has truly moved on..... and the other has not. Maybe this is when a sign should not be in the front yard?
Then the dreaded call comes in when they know just a bit of what is going on, but THINK you can fill in the blanks. That is pretty tough when you have to say...... you can't. They no longer are a principal to the transaction, and unable to share any personal information. More tears....
That is the tough part of our career choice......
