A few days ago a name popped up on my caller ID that made me instantly think back 12 years to 2005. You remember that time when we had to wait in line to see a home or listings sold before we even had the chance to schedule an appointment? In many ways, today is similar but not quite.. buyers (in general) are more comfortable waiting for the perfect gem and sticking to their need-list vs. jumping on any house just to get a house. But I'm digressing...
12 years ago I helped this caller buy his very first home, a 2 bedroom condo in Columbia. We've kept in touch a bit over the years, LinkedIn and even toured some more homes a few years back when he thought he wanted to trade up. But life moves fast and suddenly he is a small business owner himself, married and has a 3 year old child!
Why am I telling you this? Simply because this is part of being a REALTOR® and one of the many aspects that make this career so very rewarding. It's never ever "have a nice life" after a closing but "keep in touch" & "let's connect". All my clients become part of an extended family, if you will, and I love, love, love catching up with all and finding out which path their life has taken them on.
12 years later my young first time home buyer from 2005 is in the beginning stages of thinking about a new home for his family. I'm looking forward to meeting his wife and the little one and being part of another home buying adventure. It doesn't matter if that is next month, next year or five or 12 years from now.
I'll enjoy the journey. I will work diligently to find just the right home at just the right time for them. And I will feel incredibly grateful that I get to be a part of it all and get to witness the smiles at the closing table once again.
