Frivolous Foodie Friday- Shhhh -Don’t Tell Barbara Todaro
Let me preface this by saying that this is not a post that we want Barbara Todaro to read. Let’s just direct her to some of our other posts…. Hear that Brian England!
I just read and heard on the news that a study showed that taking a 2-week break from dieting can actually boost weight loss.
In my food world, I’ve eliminated the word “diet” because it makes me feel as if I’m depriving myself of something. What I prefer is a lifestyle change in how I eat.
Earlier in the month, Dick Greenberg wrote about his 5-2 Diet which is working for him. I like it because once again, it doesn’t make you feel as if you’re depriving yourself.
I must confess that I jumped the gun a bit on this new scientific report over the course of Hurricane IRMA.
The Girl Scout in me and the survivalist (ha) needed to make sure that we were well stocked with food and beverages.
So before the storm, I made sure that we had fresh salad and fruit but I also included crackers and cheese.
We ate well because a friend also staying at our “bunker” loves to cook so we had marinated flank steak the first night. Also on our menu were Kielbasa and mac & cheese and peanut butter and pita pockets.
Alas, on Monday after the storm I felt compelled to take advantage of this stressful situation we were in.
We went to a few of the stores that were open (we were in search of milk for my friend’s two-year-old) and somehow a package of Hostess Cupcakes (which I’d not eaten for at least 4 years), Cheetos (a must for any road trip), a bag or two of potato chips, Nabisco Chocolate Chip Cookies (I don’t even like them but for some reason they jumped into my cart) and a few bags of Peanut M&M’s ended up coming home with me.
Now having read the finding, I’m no longer feeling guilty for my frivolous foodie break.
What about you? What’s your favorite frivolous food?
Epilogue...we ate the cupcakes and I’ve decided I could go another 4 years before eating them again. The Cheetos and chips are gone. I gave the cookies to a friend staying with us (he has 2 children) and Larry saved me ONE peanut M&M!
Epilogue 2...I wrote this in jest but on a serious matter, there are many in the Keys and Puerto Rico and the islands who would welcome any food now, be it of the diet variety or not. MARIA missed us, thank goodness, but please don’t forget the others who will need our help.
