Carlsbad Bids Farewell to Summer and
Welcomes Fall
It’s hard to believe today is the first day of fall, and that our beautiful summer is gone.
I’ve noticed the fall changes coming recently – some cooler weather for example. They say it is going to heat up again, as it often does in late September and October, and unfortunately they are predicting a particularly bad fire season, a result of the recent dryness and all the new plant and tree growth from the heavy rains last winter…a cycle we see over and over here in Southern California.
Retailers have been ready for fall for quite some time now…Halloween products have been out for weeks in places like Home Depot and Costco. Plus the San Diego Fall Home/Garden Show starts today in Del Mar at the fairgrounds and runs through Sunday.
Many of the tourists are gone, with kids back in school, and parking has eased as has the traffic, the beaches are back to normal, and shopping and dining out is easier with fewer crowds. And boy is it getting dark earlier now!
I often get asked by people from other parts of the country if we have a change of seasons and what it is like.
I can say, without question, that we do. Oh, not the significant changes one finds in some many other parts of the country, but changes nonetheless. Most noticeable are the leaves that started changing colors weeks ago, and there are different flowers…the Bird of Paradise are well into their second bloom of the year.
It’s time to say goodbye to summer in Carlsbad and welcome the fall season. The holidays will be here soon, and activities are heating up for vacationers enjoying time in our more temperate weather. I’m already hearing reports of snow in other parts of the country!
Happy First Day of Fall!
