Smoke Detectors Save Lives

There's no denying that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors save lives. And, very often, your home must contain properly installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in order for you to sell your home.

Here are the top 3 battery operated smoke and carbon monoxide detector brands available today:

First Alert - This smoke and carbon monoxide detector is extremely popular. It has a silence button to turn off the alarm and a low battery warning. It retails for $24.98.

Kidde - This model uses a voice warning to let you know if smoke or carbon monoxide is detected. It has a Smart Hush button which you can press if you know the smoke it detected is from cooking. It has LEDs and a low battery warning. This model retails for $25.05, making it one of the most popular models available.

Nest Protect - This model is the top of the line. It features Wi-Fi connectivity so that you can receive an alert on your phone if the alarm is activated or if the batteries need replacement.  You also can turn it off from your phone if you know the smoke is from cooking, for example. It speaks to tell you what the problem is so you know what to do. Retails for $118.98.

New technologies are coming out that are very interesting. Have you seen the study on children and smoke detectors? Most children will not wake to a smoke alarm so the new ones allow parents to record messages and children respond better to that.

Hi Wayne and Jean Marie... no doubt both smoke and CO2 detectors have saved countless lives... hard to believe anyone takes the risk these days to live without them.

Jean & Wayne, in CO it is a law for both, and great list for homeowners to get these prior to listing their home.  Good idea to have these in the home even when not listed.

Good afternoon Wayne and Jean - I would go with the top of the line nest.  But better still connect to home security system and include CO.
