AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL (patriotic post)

America the beautiful; I didn't always know this but the day it came to me changed my life for the good. How? I joined the bigger picture and became involved in something so grand and cherished that I counted it my good fortune from that day on. How and why we come to this reality is different for all of us but based on results...we all come to it

LIBERTY

It is hard to argue liberty. We tend to take it for granted but take it away from someone and they will raise the roof for themselves or others. How can one have life but no liberty? Pause and let that go to work on you. In the priority of life where man has control, liberty is mandatory or as one guy said:

GIVE ME LIBERTY or GIVE ME DEATH

Thank Nathan Hale for this testimony before he was hanged. He thought it worthy to spend his last few breaths on the subject matter. Men since the beginning of time will fight to the death to have this & fight again to maintain it too. It is too precious to be treated any other way. Liberty demands this!

ONCE A WEEK

When I was growing up and attending Public school in New York during the fifties, they had weekly auditorium where the whole school marches class by class to the gathering room. We took the the pledge of allegiance and then the principal would lead us in several Patriotic songs one after another

ONE VOICE

I liked this. The kids to my right & left front & rear liked it too. How do I know? They were singing as loud as I was enjoying what we quite didn't understand. We sang all the well known branches of the military songs. I know all the words (mostly) to this day. One song after another non-stop..

MORE PATRIOTIC SONGS

If the principal wanted to catch the moment and milk it for all it was worth, he would repeat a song he sensed we all liked sort of like an encore. Everyone chimed in once again. Then, the other well know songs like "Its a grand ole flag" and "America the Beautiful with amber waves of grain" kicked in next

GOT ALL CHOKED UP

Later on when I grew up and someone took me to my first public sports event we were asked to stand while someone belted out "Oh say can you see" and I got choked up trying my best to stay calm, holding back tears from the mere beauty of being among tens of thousands all standing for this song, hand on heart & following every word some even mouthing or singing them too. What a moment to be in!

LAND OF THE FREE...HOME OF THE BRAVE

When the chosen (its a honor) singer  got to the last stanza you know the one "for the land of the freeeeeee (hold) and then the slow, respectful much wanted closure of "and the home of the... BRAVVVVVVVVE. Cheering, yelling, whistling & one voice went up without prodding. Now the game!

THE FLAG SPEAKS

When I see our flag blowing in the wind, sometimes I see it as a battle flag one that people looked up to and put hope in that all would go well for those under that flag. Sometimes you see a victory flag which represents that all did go well. Then there is the flag that says things will always be well in America

AMERICA THE PERFECT?   hardly

Not perfect, not or always just but liberty to pursue these things will be allowed until they are more in place. Sometimes I ask myself "what can I do to leave the world a better place as my way of saying thank you. The answer is not complex. As I was taught these principals so others must be taught by example

AMERICA GOES ON

We die but America lives on for the next & the next & the many have died before their time to make sure of this & still do. Some don't pay the ultimate price but lose a hand, an arm or a leg for the American way. Who volunteers to surrender life or limb? Americans do that's who! We found something worth it should the call go out....

AMERICA IS A HEART DRIVEN DYNAMIC

That's why there is a line to get into America. Today, it could take years to become a citizen but people are prepared to pay that price if only they can end up with the end prize i.e. to become an American citizen. This dynamic is mostly wordless because it is propelled more by the heart and its desires.

GO/DO    WHERE/WHAT    YOU LIKE

I will go out tomorrow and eat something of my liking. I may go to the movies or take a bike or hike and take my time while doing it. Others may travel where they are led even into other states without any fuss or requirements. Our freedoms extend across the nation for the most part. Liberty & freedom

MUCH I DONT LIKE

I have criticisms about our systems, rules, laws and all the rest but at no time do I forfeit the American way in the pursuit of my opinion. That's is not an option. It is asking too much to even consider it. The rewarding & sometimes humorous part of all this? We all feel the same way deep down beyond issues

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

I love this post - when 9-11 happened they played America the Beautiful on television --particularly the last verse because we were all so frightened and angry and moved by the strength of America

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Whenever I hear those particular words, I am still moved to tears - we live in a great and imperfect country - and we need to celebrate and accept the right to civil discourse and civil disobedience as part of our first amendment rights - It is what makes this country great  We are Americans and that means we are a fabric woven together and stronger for that -

I do not approve of some of what went on this weekend - but I approve even less of anyone who thinks he or she has the right to dictate what other people think and say and how they act.  That first amendment freedom is infinitely more important than whether I agee with or like what some people are doing or saying or wearing.

I, too, grew up singing all the traditional patriotic songs in school.  Fond memories.  I hope kids will be learning them for decades to come.

Well how about that Richie, here is an Airborne, Ranger Infantry CPT from a previous life... standing proud at the National Anthem... it really annoys me when people make $8-$20 million dollars a year playing sports and do not appreciate that this is the only country  where guys went to fight for $30k a year to protect their entitled attitudes....Endre

Hi Richie... as a naturalized citizen who had a choice of where to be a citizen, I will never understand someone who won't stand for our flage, our anthem, our pledge. My attitude has always been if you don't like it here go somewhere else.

It saddens me to see what is happening today....too many people stirring the pot and creating conflict where there need not be any. Too many people eager to be part of it, for all the wrong reasons.

I'm proud of our country (most of the time) and I get very emotional (usually tears) when ever I hear one of those patriotic songs. I couldn't be more grateful and full of respect for those who have given their lives for what our country represents.

However, what our country represents is FREEDOM and I would not deny that to those who choose to make a stand for something they feel is right.

If only more people would take the time to reach out to someone they disagree with and actually have a conversation and try to fully understand where they are coming from. We should be trying to unite, rather than divide our country.
