I am fortunate that I do not have problem with managing my time.
My secret formula : Prioritize daily chores and activities. Make to-do list but be flexible. I have daily, weekly and monthly lists.
I remember that even when I was in middle school I used to make lists . We used to have assignments during Christmas and Diwali vacations . I used to make a schedule and complete the assignments well in advance.
I have a religious holiday gettogether at my house every year in the Fall. I invite about 60 guests and prepare 21 items. In our culture when food is prepared on such occasions it has to be prepared on the day of worship. I cook everything on that day. I can do this because I have the to-do list for the week and for the day eg grocery shopping, cleaning, setting the table and cooking. People wonder how I can make so many items in a few hours.
I am not a procrastinator. I like to do things as soon as I possibly can.
I work with home buyers and sellers and renters..
Most of the renters who call me want to see homes in the evenings. They call on my rental listings.I schedule all appointments between 5 pm and 630 pm .
I do not just go and show the home. I ask them questions about credit , pets and landlord references and when they want to move and based on these answers I do not waste much time showing homes because landlords have requirements of credit and landlord references.
When I am showing homes to buyers I make sure they are prequalified. This is one thing I learned after a couple of years in real estate. I have wasted time showing homes in the first couple of years. If someone called on a house when I was on floor duty I used to rush to show the home. I do not have floor duty now.
I always ask buyers to come to my office for initial appointment.
I like to hold open houses on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 pm. I do not have the open house for more than 2 hours but I may be there with buyers who come in at last minute. I do not have them every weekend. I like to watch a few football games with family.
I manage to attend a couple of basketball games and football games every year . I plan it well in advance so that buyers know I am not available to show homes on those days.We always go on vacation every year.
I know some people who say they will do those things when they retire.
I show homes in the morning on Sundays.
I do not spend much time on social media, except Active Rain. As I am an early riser it does not affect my activities.
I make a daily To Do list but am flexible as it is important to be flexible in our business.
I do not multi task my real estate activities but multi task my personal things. Eg I knit when I am watching TV.
I made this set cap, blanket, sweater and mittens for my grandson .
I check the mail and pay bills when I am cooking.
I would like to conclude this article by quoting my mother who said this about me , ' if you can have all your meals at one time in the morning , you would do it and get it done so you can do other things the rest of the day. ."
