Chasing Time? Spend it Instead!
Being a wife, mom and REALTOR helped me to develop a well-honed system, where each day was planned and expected. When the last of our children left home, I thought it would open a wide chasm of time. It is amazing how it gets absorbed quickly without much effort.
After letting go of several real estate related commitments that served little value other than filling a chair, there was not as much time left in the day as anticipated. I still wake at dawn, check emails, get the blog posted, follow up with any messages, shower, dress and head to the office.
There, I make phone calls, check emails several times and sit floor time to take advantage of Main Street appeal. This fall, the St. George Marathon, Huntsman World Senior Games and Fall Tour de St. George brings a lot of foot traffic to the downtown St. George, Utah area!
Just when I feel stuck living the movie, Groundhog Day because a few days become strikingly similar, a text message comes in from a past client wanting to make a move. That quickly changes up the day for the opportunity to show houses and to sell their existing home.
Staying busy requires daily routines when singularly maintaining a business. The work must go toward future prospecting, farming and keeping in touch with the Sphere of Influence, otherwise it is wasted time, efforts and money. Success becomes impossible with weak intentions.
When there is a lull in business, I work on designing quarterly greeting cards for clients, offering something of value to stay top of mind. I enjoy the feedback and the possibility of getting a call or message from someone needing my services! THAT is when I know time has been well spent.
There is no secret formula to managing time or being productive, you just do the work. I have seen quotes that say, "Manage Time or it Will Manage You." or "It's Not About Having Time, it's About Making Time." I say, Spend Every Minute of The Day Rather Than Chase Time!
It has worked for me and will stay with that. Happy sales all!
