Friday Diary of a Charlotte Realtor® - 06OCT17

This has been a very emotional week for me - from the highs of great inspections and Closings with amazing clients, listings going under Contract and seller meetings to the low of a family death. Let's address the highs first!

Closings this week included an ActiveRain referral (you know who you are!!) and a past client referral. Both Closings went off without a hitch and both buyers are in new home hGood News in Charlotte Real Estateeaven right now - frantically and joyfully decorating to beat the band and SO excited to be in their new homes!

One amazing inspection that was totally expected to be good but, it's always wonderful when you hear the inspector talk about a couple of 'highlights' and then say, "That's it! The maintenance on this home has been impeccable and it shows in the few flaws that I found!" Gosh, I love those words!

Seller meetings went wall and marketing has been tweaked to reflect some ideas as discussed together. We're on the road to getting these babies SOLD!

Our Open House was cancelled this week as a result of the property going under Contract...and more importantly, at the buyers' request! The sellers very graciously agreed not to pursue further buyers at an Open House...as did we!

It is with a very heavy heart that I share that my 106-year-old grandmother (on my Dad's side) died this week. The woman was nothing short of amazing! Oh, there's so much about this woman that I could share but, the mere fact that when we celebrated her 105th birthday with her last year, she was still sharp as a tack. I truly believe her very active lifestyle, passion for reading (2-3 books a week, the daily newspaper, including the crossword puzzle each and every day) and her loving, giving, fun-spirited heart has everything to do with her longevity. Okay, I suppose genetics could have had something to do with it too!

Happy 100th Birthday MawMaw

MawMaw was an energizer bunny - she was constantly on-the-go - busy helping others, doing work for her church, her bridge groups (she was a master bridge player), neighbors...anyone in need of help, she was there!

I remember our family Christmases at MawMaw & PawPaw's house - they lived in Bluefield and we always lived in the South and rarely had snow. So, we almost always get to see snow at MawMaw's house each year! They lived in a huge house - basement and 3 finished floors. The basement was PawPaw's office, the canning room and a 'rec room,' where the pool table was from the time I was a child until she sold the house a few years ago. The 3rd floor was for the children - with 3 boys, they, of course, had 'boy stuff' with one room being one ENORMOUS Lionel train track with all of the goodies to go along with it - I can still smell the liquid smoke that we would drop into the engine's smoke stack. We would play with those trains for HOURS!

Happy 104th Birthday MawMaw

Above their garage was a furnished apartment that was most often rented out to a college student. Because they rarely had a renter in there during the summer months that I spent with my grandparents, I used to love 'playing office' for hours in the garage apartment - I learned to type on the 'manual' typewriter she had in the apartment. MawMaw also had a good collection of books and in fact, she's the one who inspired me to read a variety of authors in my young adulthood - she would save her books for me when she was finished with them.

As an adult, I always traveled to MawMaw & PawPaw's house for Thanksgiving. MawMaw and my Aunt Anne, who were both truly gourmet cooks, could really put on a show in the kitchen! When the meals were presented, you felt like you were dining in a 5-star restaurant. I took copious notes when MawMaw & Anne cooked; she had recipes written down but, she didn't use them - you had to 'guesstimate' when it came to specific measurements! She could talk and laugh and whip up the most amazing meal without batting an eye. I am 100% confident that I got my love for cooking from her - if only I were as good a cook as she was!

MawMaw's 105th birthday

My boys loved going to MawMaw & PawPaw's house but, don't remember much about PawPaw, as he died (Alzheimer's) before they were adults but, this week, they both remembered the same things about their home that I did! They also loved to go visit - MawMaw absolutely loved children and it showed - all children seemed to be drawn to her!

I remember she and PawPaw shared a passion for the game of football - college or professional. I'm a woman so, I can say this but, I always thought she was a rare breed - I didn't know any other women who enjoyed football - and could explain everything about the game! To this day, I think that MawMaw & PawPaw picked opposing teams for each game, just so they could argue about the plays, the players and the win! There was never a minute that football was on TV that the TV wasn't on - unless we were having dinner. I think that when we weren't there visiting, they probably ate in the den in front of the TV when games were on during dinnertime! And that's another thing that I believe I got from my MawMaw - my own passion for football!

I could go on and on - one day I'll write a longer blog about this amazing woman. She will be sorely missed by everyone. Not because she was my MawMaw but, she truly was one person that lit up a room when she walked in. She was not just liked by everyone - she was loved by everyone! Although we will all miss her terribly, heaven just got the most wonderful angel this week. I love you MawMaw!
