I found in my Great Thoughts of the Centuries Book a short writing that was written so long ago no one would recognize the author. But the vision and wisdom is no less true today.
" The sage does not accumulate for himself. The more that he expends for others, the more does he possess of his own;the more that he gives to others, the more does he have himself".
I have for months been trying to understand how to create a unique web age that I could use in my personal blog that would allow me to collect market data and be able to link in a template post to the already assembled data page.
I asked several people and mostly no one really understood what I was seeking to do. Using technology and describing it is often miles apart.
I had remembered on Active Rain seeing just such a market report. I wrote an e-mail to this person and he responded and we set a time to talk about it.
Our appointment was set for a Saturday morning and I figured it would be a 15 minute call at the most. I would either understand it or I wouldn't but it wouldn't take long to find out. At 45 minutes of intense training complete with an overview and all the mechanics, software and site changes, I was on my way. I realized that this seemingly small idea took him months and months to learn and figure out for himself. And he was giving me every detail of how to go about it, things to watch for and even things to learn before I started the project. I was overwhelmed of what all was involved in this and the learning of systems and software that were required to produce the reports he does so simply and beautifully.
This person I wish to give my gift of appreciation to is Gary Bolen. I owe him a debt of gratitude. He not only explained the entire detailed process it but also offered that should I want to hire a local high school or college tech person to do this for me to save some time, he would speak with them and guide them through the entire process.
My Gift of appreciation goes to Gary Bolen as an example that all of us could and many of us try to emulate. To help our community members with whatever they need to be able to embrace success in their lives and careers. This is also the measure of a man ( man or women) that would give to a stranger believing that they are sincere and in need or could use their help or guidance.
I hate contests and don't enter them. I promised I would share this because the motivation is right. Gary is a most deserving gentleman that cares about others, shares with others and his reward is the satisfaction he gets from helping. In my view we are all blessed because of people here on ActiveRain like Gary. He and his wonderful attitude of helping just because he was asked is something we should all try to emulate as often in our lives as possible.
I started with the writing by Lao-Tse, and it was written in 565 BC. The reason I choose it is because my Dad taught me his version that I have quoted here on ActiveRain several times. "William, you only get to keep in life that which you are first willing to give to away" . Now go back to the beginning of this post and you will see where my Dad obviously learned this from. At least it sounds like it to me. I told Gary this quote and he agreed that he and his brother Richard live their lives just that way as well. First always willing to give it away to take possession of what they already own.
Hi William, you are exemplary yourself for recognizing the wonderful Bolen blog.
